Long-Term Results of Patients Undergoing a Ross Procedure After a Previous Aortic Valve Surgery.
To assess the long-term outcomes of patients undergoing a Ross procedure in the context of a redo aortic valve (AV) surgery. ⋯ The ross procedure after a previous sternotomy for AV surgery is safe and offers good long-term results. Patients undergoing redo AV intervention have similar results as patients undergoing a primary Ross procedure, perhaps with a lower risk of autograft dilatation.

Mechanical versus Biological Mitral Valve Replacement: Insights from Propensity Score Matching on Survival and Reoperation Rates.
Patients with symptomatic mitral valve disease unsuitable for repair can be sufficiently treated with surgical mitral valve replacement. The decision between biological and mechanical mitral valve replacement can be difficult, especially due to the question of the lesser of 2 evils: anticoagulation versus reoperation. ⋯ Follow-up of 20 years at a high-volume center demonstrates comparable survival after mechanical or biological mitral valve replacement, whereas reoperation rates are significantly lower after mechanical mitral valve replacement.

Development of American Association for Thoracic Surgery Quality Gateway Outcome Models, Analytics, and Visualizations for Quality Assurance.
The study objective was to develop comprehensive quality assurance models for procedural outcomes after adult cardiac surgery. ⋯ By using a small set of variables and contemporary machine-learning methods, comprehensive models for procedural operative mortality and major morbidity after adult cardiac surgery were developed based on data from 3 exemplary hospital systems. They provide surgeons, their patients, and hospital systems with 21st century tools for assessing their risks compared with these advanced hospital systems and improving cardiac surgery quality.
