Digital Spatial Profiling to Predict Recurrence in Grade 3 Stage I Lung Adenocarcinoma.
Early-stage lung adenocarcinoma is treated with local therapy alone, although patients with grade 3 stage I lung adenocarcinoma have a 50% 5-year recurrence rate. Our objective is to determine if analysis of the tumor microenvironment can create a predictive model for recurrence. ⋯ Genomic difference in lung adenocarcinoma may be able to predict risk of recurrence. After further validation, stratifying patients by this risk may help guide who will benefit from adjuvant therapy.

Optimizing Care of Cardiac Surgery Patients using a Digital Platform and a Multidisciplinary Team Approach.
Restrictions to care access during the pandemic along with the increasing complexity of patients awaiting cardiac surgery provides unique challenges for care delivery. The University of Ottawa Heart Institute has developed a novel multidisciplinary digital platform, the Prehab Automated Follow-Up (AFU) Program, which delivers patient/caregiver teaching regarding risk factor mitigation, tracks patient symptoms, and screens for optimization using best practice guidelines. This study was conducted to quantify patient outcomes following initiation of the AFU Program. ⋯ Our cardiac surgery AFU Program reduced adverse health outcomes for patients by identifying and optimizing risk factors that increased quality of patient care. The AFU Program provides patient/caregiver engagement through educational support and multidisciplinary team counseling.

Lymph node dissection in small peripheral lung cancer: supplemental analysis of JCOG0802/WJOG4607L.
The optimal region of lymph node dissection (LND) during segmentectomy in patients with small peripheral non-small cell lung cancer requires clarification. Through a supplemental analysis of the Japan Clinical Oncology Group (JCOG) 0802/West Japan Oncology Group (WJOG) 4607L, we investigated the associated factors, distribution, and recurrence pattern of lymph node metastases (LNMs) and proposed the optimal LND region. ⋯ Nonadjacent interlobar and mediastinal LND have little impact on pathologic nodal staging in patients with part-solid tumors. In contrast, selective LND is recommended at least for patients with pure-solid tumors.

Therapeutic potential of human iPS cell-derived cardiac tissue in an ischemic model with unloaded condition mimicking left ventricular assist device.
This study aimed to explore the therapeutic potential of human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived cardiac tissues (HiCTs) in the emerging approach of bridge to recovery for severe heart failure with ventricular assist devices. We used a rat model of heterotopic heart transplantation (HTx) to mimic ventricular assist device support and heart unloading. ⋯ Transplanting HiCTs into ischemic hearts under unloaded conditions promoted engraftment, neovascularization, attenuated infarct remodeling, and suppressed myocyte atrophy. These results suggest that HiCT treatment could contribute to future advancements in bridge to recovery.
