Multicenter StudyMultiple arterial coronary bypass grafting is associated with better survival compared with second-generation drug-eluting stents in patients with stable multivessel coronary artery disease.
We sought to compare the long-term outcomes of multiarterial graft (MAG) coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) versus percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with second-generation drug-eluting stents (DES) to treat stable multivessel coronary artery disease. ⋯ CABG with MAG was associated with better survival and fewer major cardiac adverse events compared with second-generation DES and might be considered the treatment of choice for patients with stable multivessel coronary artery disease. Further randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm this hypothesis.

Norwood operation versus comprehensive stage II after bilateral pulmonary artery banding palliation for infants with critical left heart obstruction.
To determine patient characteristics and outcomes after Norwood versus comprehensive stage II (COMPSII) for infants with critical left heart obstruction who had prior hybrid palliation (bilateral pulmonary artery banding ± ductal stent). ⋯ Higher prevalence of prematurity, lower birth weight, and other patient-related characteristics in the Norwood versus COMPSII groups may influence differences in outcomes that were not statistically significant for this limited risk-adjusted cohort. The clinical decision regarding Norwood versus COMPSII after initial hybrid palliation remains challenging.

Estimating revenue, costs, and operating margin of any hospital-based thoracic surgery practice using a novel financial model.
The study objective was to develop a generalizable financial model that estimates payor-specific reimbursements associated with anatomic lung resections for any hospital-based thoracic surgery practice. ⋯ For any hospital-based thoracic surgery practice, this novel financial model can calculate both overall and payor-specific reimbursements, costs, and operating margin across the full perioperative spectrum. By manipulating hospital name, hospital state, volume, and payor mix, any program can gain insights into their financial contributions and use the outputs to guide investment decisions.
