Randomized Controlled TrialNitric oxide delivery during cardiopulmonary bypass reduces acute kidney injury: A randomized trial.
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a serious complication of cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of nitric oxide (NO) supplementation to the CPB circuit on the development of cardiac surgery-associated AKI. ⋯ NO administration in patients at moderate risk of renal complications undergoing elective cardiac surgery with CPB was associated with a lower incidence of AKI.

Pulmonary artery size on computed tomography is associated with major morbidity after pulmonary lobectomy.
To investigate the relationship of pulmonary artery diameter (PAD) measured by computed tomography (CT) with outcomes following lobectomy. ⋯ CT-based measurements of the PAD on the operative side may inform of the about the risk of major complications after lobectomy. Review of PA size on preoperative CT scans may help identify patients who would benefit from formal evaluation of PA pressures to improve the operative risk assessment.
