Metabolomic studies reveal an organ-protective hibernation state in donor lungs preserved at 10°C.
Previous reports showed enhanced graft function in both healthy and injured porcine lungs after preservation at 10 °C. The objective of the study is to elucidate the mechanism of lung protection by 10 °C and identify potential therapeutic targets to improve organ preservation. ⋯ Untargeted metabolomics revealed a dynamic metabolic gradient for lungs stored at 10 °C. Elucidating the underlying mechanisms behind this pathway regulation may lead to strategies that will allow organs "hibernate" for days, potentially making organ banking a reality.

The Cone repair Allows Right Ventricle Rehabilitation with Excellent Tricuspid Valve Function Following the Starnes Procedure.
We present a case series of right ventricle (RV) rehabilitation after the Starnes procedure in patients with Ebstein anomaly (EA), applying the Cone repair of the tricuspid valve (TV) to achieve 2-ventricle or 1.5-ventricle physiology. ⋯ After the Starnes procedure, the Cone repair allowed RV rehabilitation, resulting in trivial or mild TR at a midterm follow-up. The Starnes procedure is a reproducible technique that no longer commits patients to lifetime single-ventricle physiology.

Diversity Presentations at Cardiothoracic Surgery Meetings: Opportunity to Align Our Actions with Our Values.
Substantial efforts have been directed toward identifying and addressing cardiothoracic surgical disparities in both patient care and our workforce. We aimed to characterize the presence over time of diversity and disparities-related content at cardiothoracic surgical society meetings. ⋯ Recent years have shown an explosion in cardiothoracic surgery meeting content focused on diversity but still account for a diminutive proportion of overall content. These data highlight an opportunity to further align scholarly activity with our values.

Chronic Total Occlusions and Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Outcomes.
To investigate the association between the presence and grafting of chronic total occlusions (CTOs) and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) outcomes. ⋯ In this REGROUP trial subanalysis, neither CTO presence or complete grafting of CTO vessels was associated with significantly different rates of MACE. However, the finding of possible survival benefit among a subgroup of patients undergoing grafting of a dominant RCA CTO vessel alongside left anterior descending artery grafting warrants additional study.
