Abusive head trauma (AHT) is the leading cause traumatic death in children ≤5 years of age. AHT remains seriously under-surveilled, increasing the risk of subsequent injury and death. This study assesses the clinical and social risks associated with fatal and non-fatal AHT. ⋯ Prognostic, Level III.

Microcoil localization as an effective adjunct to thoracoscopic resection of pulmonary nodules in children.
Thoracoscopic excision of pulmonary nodules is often required for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes, however subpleural and sub-centimeter nodules can be difficult to visualize. Various CT-guided localization techniques have been described, though there is minimal published pediatric data regarding the use of microcoils. We hypothesize that microcoil localization facilitates thoracoscopic resection of pulmonary nodules in children. ⋯ Level III.

The rapid spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has exceeded the standard capacity of many hospital systems and led to an unprecedented scarcity of resources, including the already limited resource of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). With the large amount of critically ill patients and the highly contagious nature of the virus, significant consideration of ECMO candidacy is crucial for both appropriate allocation of resources as well as ensuring protection of health care personnel. ⋯ This article describes our changes in consultation, cannulation, and daily care of COVID-19 positive patients requiring ECMO as well as discusses strategies for ensuring safety of our ECMO healthcare personnel and optimal allocation of resources.
