Neuroprotective effects of artemisinin against isoflurane-induced cognitive impairments and neuronal cell death involve JNK/ERK1/2 signalling and improved hippocampal histone acetylation in neonatal rats.
This study was performed to assess the effect of artemisinin against isoflurane-induced neuronal apoptosis and cognitive impairment in neonatal rats. ⋯ Artemisinin effectively inhibited neuronal apoptosis and improved cognition and memory via regulating histone acetylation and JNK/ERK1/2 signalling.

Novel carvedilol paediatric nanomicelle formulation: in-vitro characterization and in-vivo evaluation.
Carvedilol (CAR) is a poorly water-soluble beta-blocker. Its encapsulation within nanomicelles (NMs) could improve drug solubility and its oral bioavailability, allowing the development of a paediatric liquid CAR formulation with commercially available copolymers: D-α-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate (TPGS) and poly(vinyl caprolactam)-poly(vinyl acetate)-poly(ethylene glycol) (Soluplus® ). ⋯ The present investigation demonstrates the development of highly concentrated CAR liquid micellar formulation. The improvement on drug oral bioavailability contributes to the potential of this NMs formulation to enhance CAR paediatric treatment.

Challenge of paediatric compounding to solid dosage forms sachets and hard capsules - Finnish perspective.
The study evaluated the quality of compounded sachets and hard gelatine capsules and their feasibility in paediatric drug administration. ⋯ Compounded sachets and capsules fulfilled the quality requirements in most cases. In compounding, the choice of excipients should be considered as they can affect conformity of the dosage form or its usability in practice. Quality assurance of compounded formulations should be taken into consideration in hospital pharmacies.

Comparative StudyPharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of rocuronium in young adult and elderly patients undergoing elective surgery.
To evaluate the impact of advanced age on rocuronium kinetic disposition in ASA I-III patients undergoing elective surgeries. ⋯ Elderly patients showed increased AUC/D and reduced total Cl compared to young adult patients due to the age-related reduced renal function. Differences in the PK-PD properties of rocuronium in elderly population are due to changes in drug disposition rather than to alterations in the sensitivity to the drug.

Effects of Hovenia dulcis Thunb. extract and methyl vanillate on atopic dermatitis-like skin lesions and TNF-α/IFN-γ-induced chemokines production in HaCaT cells.
Here, we hypothesized that Hovenia dulcis branch extract (HDB) and its active constituents ameliorates 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene-induced atopic dermatitis (AD)-like skin lesions by modulating the T helper Th1/Th2 balance in NC/Nga mice and TNF-α- and IFN-γ-induced production of thymus and activation-regulated chemokine (TARC) and macrophage-derived chemokine (MDC) in HaCaT cells. ⋯ These results suggest that HDB inhibits AD-like skin diseases by regulating Th1 and Th2 responses in NC/Nga mice and in HaCaT cells.
