Recent polymer-based computer-assisted design and computer-assisted manufacturing (CAD-CAM) materials have been commercialized for inlay restorations, a polymer-infiltrated ceramic-network (PICN) and composite resin nanoceramics. Little independent evidence regarding their mechanical properties exists. Internal adaptation is an important factor for the clinical success and longevity of a restoration, and data concerning this parameter for inlays made with these blocks are scarce. ⋯ The mechanical properties of the CAD-CAM block materials tested were within the acceptable range for fabrication of single restorations according to the ISO standard for ceramics (ISO 6872:2008). IPS e.max CAD and Cerasmart were observed to have superior flexural strength and better internal fit.

The Liverpool Oral Rehabilitation Questionnaire (LORQ) is a health-related quality of life instrument assessing the impact of oral rehabilitation on patients' health-related quality of life. Because a validated Dutch version of the LORQ is not available, the questionnaire cannot be used in the Netherlands. ⋯ The LORQv3-NL appears to be a good tool for assessing denture complaints and denture incompatibility.

The colonization of microorganisms on acrylic resin dentures may result in denture-induced stomatitis. No efficient coating has yet been proposed to address this issue. ⋯ Coating with a 10-μm layer of Parylene C resulted in lower Ra values for the rougher groups and increased SFE values. Increasing the coating thickness resulted in an increase of the Ra.

An investigation of the effect of scaling-induced surface roughness on bacterial adhesion in common fixed dental restorative materials.
Bacterial plaque must be routinely removed from teeth, adjacent structures, and prostheses. However, the removal of this plaque can inadvertently increase the risk of future bacterial adhesion. ⋯ The results of this investigation indicate that Type III gold alloy exhibited increased surface roughness values after stainless steel curette and prophylaxis cup treatments. Zirconia was less susceptible to bacterial adhesion than lithium disilicate, and greater bacterial adhesion was found for the stainless steel curette than the other instrumentation methods.

Assessment of heat generation during implant insertion.
Many studies have investigated the heat generated during implant preparation, but data are needed to better predict heat generation during implant insertion. ⋯ Manual implant insertion and at speeds of 30 rpm and 50 rpm generated lower heat compared with insertion at 100 rpm.
