Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have become the gold standard for evaluating the effectiveness of treatment interventions. If not properly controlled, bias in the design of trial methodology can affect the validity of the study results. ⋯ The quality of RCTs published in prosthodontic journals may be improved by minimizing potential sources of bias and adequately reporting trial methodology.

The placement and restoration of dental implants require the use of numerous reusable instruments and components. The adequate sterilization of reusable instruments and components is essential to prevent cross contamination between patients. Sterilization usually is accomplished with single-use sterilization envelopes. A reusable sterilization vehicle would reduce costs as well as the waste generated in patient care. ⋯ A Pyrex test tube sealed with a cotton roll can serve as a sterilization vehicle for reusable dental implant instruments and components.

Effect of pressure of helium, argon, krypton, and xenon on the porosity, microstructure, and mechanical properties of commercially pure titanium castings.
Porosity is a frequently observed casting defect in dental titanium alloys. ⋯ Porosity and mechanical properties of cp Ti castings are dependent on the gas type and pressure, whereas the microstructure remains unaffected.

There is a need for a quick, objective, quantitative sensory test of the mandibular inferior alveolar nerve to assess sensory dysfunction due to trauma, infection, or disease. ⋯ From the values obtained, R-CPT testing was reliable for the quantification of sensory function in healthy individuals.
