Medical assistants are core members of the primary care team, but health care organizations struggle to hire and retain them amid the ongoing exodus of health care workers as part of the "Great Resignation." To sustain a stable and engaged workforce of medical assistants, we argue that efforts to hire and retain them should focus on making their work worthwhile. Work that is worthwhile includes adequate pay, benefits, and job security, but additionally enables employees to experience a sense of contribution, growth, social connectedness, and autonomy. ⋯ We also connect these components to the work design literature to show how clinic managers and supervising clinicians can promote worthwhile work through decision-making and organizational climate. Going beyond financial compensation, these components target the latent occupational needs of medical assistants and are likely to forge employee-employer relationships that are mutually valued and sustained over time.

We examined the impact of various comorbid conditions on diabetes and condition-specific cost-related nonadherence (CRN), and HbA1c in adults with diabetes. ⋯ CRN in patients with diabetes is higher than in other comorbid conditions and is associated with poor diabetes control. These findings may be driven by higher out-of-pocket costs for medications to manage diabetes, lack of symptoms associated with poor diabetes control, or other factors, with implications for both clinicians and health insurance programs.

Interprofessional care contributes to all components of the quadruple aim. While previous research has identified many facilitators and barriers to the provision of interprofessional care, whether demographic differences might influence the extent to which providers collaborate interprofessionally remains unknown. ⋯ Female providers are more likely to share their patients with an interprofessional team.

When antidepressants are discontinued, severe withdrawal symptoms are possible. Some patients have few or no problems stopping, whereas others struggle. That struggle can be minimized or prevented with careful dose tapering. How often is that done? ⋯ While reports of severe withdrawal are increasingly recognized and must be addressed, our data suggest that many patients can discontinue their antidepressants without a taper through the lowest dose. However, it is difficult to identify which patients will struggle without a careful taper. A "one-size-fits-all" taper approach is recommended, balancing the need for withdrawal prevention with the need to avoid unnecessary complexity for the majority of patients. The first decrement is key for all patients: it must go well. Thereafter many patients may accelerate but all should receive a prescription for the lowest available dose of their antidepressant.

Health care policy and practice-level enthusiasm around social screening has emerged in the absence of a clear appreciation for how patients feel about these activities. Yet patient and caregiver perspectives should be used to establish the rationale and inform the design and implementation of social screening initiatives. ⋯ The themes emerging in this diverse set of largely descriptive studies warrant deeper and more rigorous exploration as social screening initiatives expand in health care settings across the United States.
