Estimating the risk of cancer associated with imaging related radiation during surveillance for stage I testicular cancer using computerized tomography.
Computerized tomography has a critical role in the surveillance of stage I nonseminomatous germ cell tumors of the testis. Some protocols call for up to 16 computerized tomography scans over 5 years, thereby exposing young patients to a significant amount of radiation. We estimated the lifetime risk of cancer incidence and cancer death from imaging related radiation received during surveillance of stage I nonseminomatous germ cell tumor. ⋯ Computerized tomography used in testicular cancer surveillance protocols imparts large radiation doses and is associated with a significant risk of cancer. This risk should be factored into counseling patients with stage I nonseminomatous germ cell tumor.

Staged reconstruction of long segment urethral strictures in men with previous pediatric hypospadias repair.
Reconstruction of long segment urethral stricture disease in adults with a history of pediatric hypospadias repair remains complex secondary to poor urethral blood supply, extensive penile scarring and the need for significant amounts of graft or flap tissue. We describe our experience with staged urethroplasty in this cohort of men. ⋯ We describe outcomes after staged reconstruction for extensive urethral stricture disease in men after previous pediatric hypospadias repair in childhood. At intermediate followup staged urethroplasty provided acceptable outcomes.

Preoperative prognostic nomogram (probability table) for renal cell carcinoma based on TNM classification.
Recently several prognostic nomograms have been developed to predict the prognosis of malignant diseases, including renal cell carcinoma. However, to our knowledge a preoperative prognostic nomogram that predicts survival in patients with renal cell carcinoma is not available. We developed a preoperative nomogram based on the TNM classification that predicts cause specific survival in patients with renal cell carcinoma. ⋯ The preoperative information shown by this nomogram may be important for obtaining informed consent from patients with renal cell carcinoma who have indications for surgery.
