Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialA randomized prospective study comparing long-term intravesical instillations of mitomycin C and bacillus Calmette-Guerin in patients with superficial bladder carcinoma.
We compared the efficacy and toxicity of long-term mitomycin C versus bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) instillation in patients at high risk for recurrence and progression of superficial bladder carcinoma. ⋯ The majority of patients tolerated long-term intravesical therapy well. BCG instillation was hampered by more frequent side effects. BCG was superior regarding recurrence prophylaxis, since patients given BCG had fewer recurrences and a significantly longer time to treatment failure compared to those treated with mitomycin C. No statistically significant difference was observed regarding progression.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialAlternating mitomycin C and bacillus Calmette-Guerin instillation prophylaxis for recurrent papillary (stages Ta to T1) superficial bladder cancer. Finnbladder Group.
We attempted to prove if alternating chemoprophylactic and immunoprophylactic instillations improved efficacy and decreased toxicity in patients with recurrent superficial bladder cancer. ⋯ Efficacy of alternating mitomycin C and BCG was equal to mitomycin C monotherapy, and both methods were effective in prophylaxis of recurrent papillary bladder cancer. Less toxicity occurred in the alternating treatment group compared to earlier BCG monotherapy results.

Case ReportsThe value of magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis of suspected penile fracture with atypical clinical findings.
We studied the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the diagnosis of suspected penile fracture. ⋯ MRI is the most accurate imaging procedure when penile fracture is suspected but clinical findings are unusual.

Comparative StudyLaparoscopic radical nephrectomy for renal tumor: the Washington University experience.
We report our experience with laparoscopic radical nephrectomy in 17 consecutive patients with renal tumors. ⋯ Laparoscopic radical nephrectomy is a lengthy and demanding procedure. However, it affords patients with renal cell carcinoma a markedly improved postoperative course while accomplishing the necessary surgical goals.

Total food consumption and body mass index in relation to prostate cancer risk: a case-control study in Sweden with prospectively collected exposure data.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men and accounts for most cancer related deaths in Sweden today. To find or confirm exogenous risk factors for prostate cancer a population based case-control study was performed. ⋯ This study suggests that high BMI and total food consumption are independent risk factors for prostate cancer and that dietary habits are important in the development of this tumor. It is also unlikely that neither tobacco nor alcohol use substantially changes the risk of prostate cancer.
