The black-blood (BB) technique was developed to suppress the signal from blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to provide improved depiction of vessel walls. ⋯ Both 3D TSE T1WI sequences were acceptable for intracranial vessel wall evaluation, with or without BB techniques. Therefore, BB techniques may not necessarily be required with 3D TSE T1WI with a long ETL and TR (below 1160 ms).

Previous studies have documented that disordered eating is associated with a wide range of impaired physical and mental health conditions among children and adolescents. The relationship between disordered eating and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) has been predominantly examined in children and adolescents who are overweight or obese or suffer from chronic illnesses. In the last decade, several studies have been conducted to investigate the relationship between disordered eating and HRQOL among school and community children and adolescents. No systematic review or meta-analysis has synthesized the findings from these population-based studies. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to synthesize the relationship between disordered eating and HRQOL among the general population of children and adolescents. ⋯ The present review reveals that disordered eating behaviors and eating disorders are associated with decreased HRQOL in children and adolescents. More prospective studies are needed to ascertain the directions in the relationship between disordered eating and HRQOL among children and adolescents. The findings of this review suggest that health programs for promoting healthy eating and reducing disordered eating behaviors among school children and adolescents may help to enhance the HRQOL and overall health status of these individuals.

This study aimed to identify the factors capable of mortality prediction in patients on hemodialysis, using a prospective cohort with three years of follow-up. We hypothesized that lack of clinical-metabolic control, impairment of nutritional status, and inadequate food consumption are risk factors for mortality in this population. This is a longitudinal study on a non-probabilistic sample of 85 adults and elderly patients undergoing hemodialysis, aged ≥ 18 years (66.0% male, 61.6±13.7 years). ⋯ We observed that age (HR = 1.319, CI 95% = 1.131-1.538), calcium-phosphorus product (HR = 1.114, CI 95% = 1.031-1.205), ferritin (HR = 1.001, CI 95% = 1.001-1.002), nitric oxide (HR = 1.082, CI 95% = 1.006-1.164), and vitamin C intake (HR = 1.005, CI 95% = 1.001-1.009) were positively associated with mortality. Serum iron (HR = 0.717, CI 95% = 0.567-0.907), triceps skinfold thickness (HR = 0.704, CI 95% = 0.519-0.954), lean mass (HR = 0.863, CI 95% = 0.787-0.945), and the ratio of dietary monounsaturated/polyunsaturated fat (HR = 0.022, CI 95% = 0.001-0.549) were independent negative predictors of mortality. Our results suggest that dietary intake is also a predictor of mortality in patients on hemodialysis, besides nutritional status, body composition, oxidative stress, inflammation, and bone metabolism, indicating the importance of evaluation of these factors altogether for better prognosis.

Comparison of drug safety data obtained from the monitoring system, literature, and social media: An empirical proof from a Chinese patent medicine.
To investigate the consistency of adverse events (AEs) and adverse drug reactions (ADRs) reported in the literature, monitoring and social media data. ⋯ In our study, the most prevalent AEs and ADRs, mainly gastro-intestinal system disorders including nausea, diarrhea and vomiting, in monitoring system were largely similar with those in literature and social media. But data from different sources varied if looked at details. Multiple data sources (the monitoring system, literature and social media) should be integrated to collect safety information of interventions. The distributions of AEs and ADRs from RCTs were least similar with the data from other sources. Our empirical proof is consistent with other similar studies.

Decreased psychomotor vigilance of female shift workers after working night shifts.
We compared psychomotor vigilance in female shift workers of the Bergmannsheil University Hospital in Bochum, Germany (N = 74, 94% nurses) after day and night shifts. ⋯ Our results add to the growing body of literature demonstrating that night-shift work is associated with decreased psychomotor vigilance. As the analysis of RTCV suggests, performance deficits may selectively be driven by few slow reactions at the lower end of the reaction time distribution function. Comparing intra-individual PVT-performances over three consecutive night and two consecutive day shifts, we observed performance improvements after the third night shift. Although a training effect cannot be ruled out, this finding may suggest better adaptation to the night schedule if avoiding fast-changing shift schedules.
