The effects of Levosimendan on global haemodynamics in patients with cardiogenic shock.
Levosimendan may improve the outcome of acute heart failure patients with preserved arterial blood pressure. However, the data on its use in critically ill patients are scarce. ⋯ Our results suggest that levosimendan infusion given as adjunctive therapy in patients with cardiogenic shock may be safe with beneficial effects on global haemodynamics.

Comparative StudyProlonged use of phenytoin, carbamazepine or valproate monotherapy on plasma levels of folate and B(12): a comparison between epileptic patients with or without cardiovascular disorders.
Previous studies showed an association between the blood levels of folate and vitamin B(12) and the risk for cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of chronic use of phenytoin, carbamazepine or valproate monotherapy on the plasma levels of folate and B(12), and to compare folate and B(12) levels in epileptic patients with or without cardiovasular disorders. ⋯ In epileptic patients on chronic therapy with phenytoin, carbamazepine or valproate folate and B(12) levels were not different in patients with or without cardiovascular disorders.

Kerosene poisoning in childhood: a 6-year prospective study at the Princess Rahmat Teaching Hospital.
Poisoning due to drugs is influenced to a large extent by the population's socioeconomic and cultural status. The purpose of our study was to determine and present the pattern of poisoning with kerosene in Princess Rahmat hospital, Irbid, Jordan, and to assess the effects of variables such as age, season, sex and agent on poisoning frequency in Princess Rahmat hospital, northern Jordan. ⋯ 1) There is a higher risk of kerosene poisoning during the hot months of the year; 2) the respiratory system is the main target organ affected; 3) pneumonia is in most cases interstitial and bilateral; 4) vomiting after hydrocarbon ingestion is related to the rate of development of pneumonia; 5) symptoms of CNS impairment were correlated with hypoxemia, pneumonia, and fever; and 6) CNS toxicity may occur without hypoxemia, concurrent pulmonary pathology, or other pathology.

Pregnancy complicated by Myasthenia gravis - twelve years experience.
The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of Myasthenia gravis (MG) on the course of pregnancy, labor and delivery, and the condition of neonate. ⋯ Myasthenia gravis did not have significant effect on the course of pregnancy or mode of delivery. In the twin pregnancies it is possible that only one twin will present with the symptoms of TNMG.

The aim of the study was to describe the effect of motor cortex stimulation (MCS) on pain thresholds in deafferentated rats. ⋯ Our results show a similar effect of the stimulation in man and experimental animals despite the differences in the organisation of the cerebral cortex. The use of laboratory animals is promising for further studies in the field of involved antalgic mechanisms of MCS.
