Comparative StudyEffectiveness of child safety seats vs seat belts in reducing risk for death in children in passenger vehicle crashes.
To provide an estimate of benefit, if any, of child restraint systems over seat belts alone for children aged from 2 through 6 years. ⋯ Based on these findings as well as previous epidemiological and biomechanical evidence for child restraint system effectiveness in reducing nonfatal injury risk, efforts should continue to promote use of child restraint systems through improved laws and with education and disbursement programs.

To assess the accuracy of parental predictions about their children's self-reported behavior around household guns. ⋯ Many parents who were living in homes with firearms and who reported that their children had never handled firearms in their homes were contradicted by their children's self-reports. Parents who locked their guns away and discussed gun safety with their children were as likely to be contradicted as parents who did not take such safety measures.

Health-related quality of life during the first year after traumatic brain injury.
To document health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of children with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and to examine the relationship between TBI severity and HRQOL during the first year after injury. ⋯ Moderate or severe TBI resulted in measurable declines in children's HRQOL after injury. Injury-related factors impacted HRQOL more compared with patient and family characteristics during the first year after injury.
