Multicenter Study Observational StudyEpidemiology of Pediatric Severe Sepsis in Main PICU Centers in Southwest China.
To estimate the prevalence, management, and outcomes of pediatric severe sepsis in the main PICUs in Southwest China. ⋯ This report is the first to present the prevalence, treatment, and outcomes of pediatric severe sepsis in the main PICU centers in Southwest China. The mortality rate remains high; therefore, improved clinical management and implementation of large-scale clinical trials are necessary to improve early diagnoses and treatment.

Observational StudyApneic Oxygenation As a Quality Improvement Intervention in an Academic PICU.
To evaluate if the use of apneic oxygenation during tracheal intubation in children is feasible and would decrease the occurrence of oxygen desaturation. ⋯ Implementation of apneic oxygenation in PICU was feasible, and was associated with significant reduction in moderate and severe oxygen desaturation. Use of apneic oxygenation should be considered when intubating critically ill children.

A Machine Learning-Based Triage Tool for Children With Acute Infection in a Low Resource Setting.
To deploy machine learning tools (random forests) to develop a model that reliably predicts hospital mortality in children with acute infections residing in low- and middle-income countries, using age and other variables collected at hospital admission. ⋯ A machine learning-based algorithm could reliably predict hospital mortality in a Sub-Sahara African population of 949 children with an acute infection using easily collected information at admission which includes age, respiratory rate, capillary refill time, and altered mental state. Future studies need to evaluate and strengthen this algorithm in larger pediatric populations, both in high- and low-/middle-income countries.
