Observational StudyTherapeutic Hypothermia After Perinatal Asphyxia in Infants With Severe, Ductal-Dependent Congenital Heart Disease.
Patients with severe congenital heart disease and cardiac anomalies such as restrictive foramen ovale, intact atrial septum, or narrowing of ductus arteriosus are at risk for perinatal asphyxia, leading to hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. We hypothesize that therapeutic hypothermia can be applied to these patients and seek to investigate feasibility and safety of this method. ⋯ Therapeutic hypothermia can be applied to patients with severe congenital heart disease and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. Low-dose prostaglandin E1 infusions are safe for ductal maintenance during cooling, but cardiopulmonary adverse effects should be anticipated.

Nalbuphine Reduces Opioid-Associated Urinary Retention in Pediatric Patients.
To evaluate the effect of nalbuphine administration on urine output in critically ill children with opioid-associated urinary retention. ⋯ Nalbuphine administration, at a dose of 0.1 mg/kg, improved urine output in a cohort of children with opioid-associated urinary retention. Pain control did not appear influenced by the provision of nalbuphine. Additional studies are needed to determine the influence of nalbuphine on urinary catheter insertion rates and catheter-associated urinary tract infections.
