Skin-to-Skin Care Is a Safe and Effective Comfort Measure for Infants Before and After Neonatal Cardiac Surgery.
To determine the effect of skin-to-skin care on stress, pain, behavioral organization, and physiologic stability of infants with critical congenital heart disease before and after neonatal cardiac surgery. ⋯ Skin-to-skin care is a low-cost, low-risk intervention that promotes comfort and supports physiologic stability in infants before and after neonatal cardiac surgery.

Mobile Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation: 5-Year Experience of a French Pediatric and Neonatal Center.
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation is an established therapy for refractory cardiac and/or pulmonary failure that is not available in all centers. When infants and children require extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, they are sometimes placed on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support in peripheral centers where extracorporeal membrane oxygenation is not available and then transferred on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation to specialized centers. The objective of this study is to first describe one of the largest cohorts of infants and children transported by a mobile unit while on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. ⋯ We describe one of the largest cohorts of infants and children transported by a mobile unit while on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. Our findings confirm that it is safe to start extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in a referring center and to transport patients using an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation mobile team. The only risk factor associated with higher mortality was an initially elevated lactate level.

Standardized Perioperative Feeding Protocol Improves Outcomes in Patients With d-Transposition of the Great Arteries Undergoing Arterial Switch Operation.
To determine whether the presence of a standardized feeding protocol improves outcomes in a subset of neonates undergoing cardiac surgery. ⋯ An aggressive, but safe, perioperative feeding protocol implemented in a homogenous low-risk neonatal cardiac surgical population improves feeding outcomes, including increased weight gain, as well as decreased postoperative length of stay. Consideration for perioperative feeding protocol implementation and further study should be given.

The Impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic on U.S. and Canadian PICUs.
There are limited reports of the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic focused on U.S. and Canadian PICUs. This hypothesis-generating report aims to identify the United States and Canadian trends of coronavirus disease 2019 in PICUs. ⋯ PICUs have been significantly impacted by the pandemic. They have provided care not only for children but also adults. Patients with coronavirus disease 2019 have a high frequency of comorbidities, require longer stays, more ventilatory support than usual PICU admissions. These data suggest several avenues for further exploration.

Observational StudyOccurrence and Risk Factors for Unplanned Catheter Removal in a PICU: Central Venous Catheters Versus Peripherally Inserted Central Venous Catheters.
We aimed to identify the occurrence and risk factors for unplanned catheter removal due to catheter-associated complications and the effects on catheter survival probability in a PICU. ⋯ In a PICU, peripherally inserted central venous catheters had lower occurrence of central line-associated bloodstream infection than central venous catheters; however, similar catheter survival probabilities were observed between both catheters. A central catheter tip position for both catheters and ultrasound-guided insertion for peripherally inserted central venous catheters may help limit unplanned catheter removal due to catheter-associated complications.
