The Modified Clinical Progression Scale for Pediatric Patients: Evaluation as a Severity Metric and Outcome Measure in Severe Acute Viral Respiratory Illness.
To develop, evaluate, and explore the use of a pediatric ordinal score as a potential clinical trial outcome metric in children hospitalized with acute hypoxic respiratory failure caused by viral respiratory infections. ⋯ The CPS-Ped can be used to describe the time course of illness and threshold for clinical improvement in hospitalized children and adolescents with acute respiratory failure from viral infections. This outcome measure could feasibly be used in clinical trials to evaluate in-hospital recovery.

Parental Perception and Measured Functional Status Following Pediatric Critical Illness: A Secondary Analysis of the Survivor Outcomes Study.
We evaluated the concordance between parent/guardian perception of child long-term function and objectively scored long-term functional status using the Functional Status Scale (FSS) among PICU survivors. ⋯ These findings shed light on a critical disconnect between parent/guardian perspective and our current tools to measure a child's functional status following critical illness. In an era of decreased PICU mortality and increased long-term morbidity, the discordance between parent/guardian perception and available scoring tools in the assessment of long-term functional status highlights a key opportunity to improve communication and anchor expectations for long-term outcomes among PICU survivors.

Malnutrition and Nutrition Support in Latin American PICUs: The Nutrition in PICU (NutriPIC) Study.
To characterize the nutritional status of children admitted to Latin American (LA) PICUs and to describe the adequacy of nutrition support in reference to contemporary international recommendations. ⋯ The NutriPIC study found that in 2021 malnutrition was highly prevalent especially in PICU admissions of less than 24 months old. Retrospectively, the 7-day median nutritional support appears to meet both energy and protein requirements.

Observational StudyEvaluation of the Resources and Inequities Among Pediatric Critical Care Facilities in Pakistan.
To evaluate nationwide pediatric critical care facilities and resources in Pakistan. ⋯ There is a general lack of resources, seen disproportionately in the public sector. The scarcity of qualified intensivists and nursing staff poses a challenge to Pakistan's PICU infrastructure.

Amplitude Integrated Electroencephalography: Simulated Assessment of Neonatal Seizure Detection in PICU Patients.
Amplitude integrated electroencephalography (aEEG) is a mainstay of care in neonatal ICUs; however, knowledge gaps exist in relation to its accuracy for identifying seizures in older children. We aimed to review the diagnostic accuracy of existing neonatal seizure detection criteria for seizure detection in older children in hospital. ⋯ aEEG criteria for neonatal seizure identification can be applied with caution to older children and should be supplemented by formal electroencephalography. Seizure identification is better for longer seizures and those arising from sleep. SE is not always recognized by aEEG among older children.
