Lessons and Insights From the Implementation of the Cohort Model for a PICU: A Case Study Research.
The subspecialty cohort model allows for creation of smaller diagnosis pools, enabling concentration of expertise and collaboration. Given unknown effects of this model on team dynamics in a PICU, we examined how the cohort-model implementation was perceived by our providers and how this organizational change affected the work environment. ⋯ Our transition to a cohort PICU model offers lessons on impacts of PICU model changes on communities and teams. These theory-informed insights and implications can guide others undergoing similar transitions.

ICU Admission Tool for Congenital Heart Catheterization (iCATCH): A Predictive Model for High Level Post-Catheterization Care and Patient Management.
Currently, there are no prediction tools available to identify patients at risk of needing high-complexity care following cardiac catheterization for congenital heart disease. We sought to develop a method to predict the likelihood a patient will require intensive care level resources following elective cardiac catheterization. ⋯ The creation of a validated pre-procedural risk prediction model for ICU admission following congenital cardiac catheterization using a large volume, single-center, academic institution will improve resource allocation and prediction of capacity needs for this complex patient population.

Being and Becoming: Narrative Records of Pediatric Critical Care Clinicians.
Medical humanities initiatives have been integrated in our Pediatric Critical Care program to help clinicians make meaning of key experiences in their professional and personal journeys. In particular, narrative medicine and clinicians' writings illuminate and commemorate these journeys and increase our understanding of our profession in its full complexity. In this piece, we provide an example of a medical humanities curriculum and a selection of pieces written by several participants in it. These pieces form a collective narrative, portraying aspects of our individual and collective biography.
