Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation versus pressure support plus volume guarantee ventilation in the weaning phase of preterm infants*.
To compare the effects and short-term outcomes of pressure support ventilation with volume guarantee versus synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation in the weaning phase of very low-birth weight infants with respiratory distress syndrome. ⋯ Pressure support ventilation with volume guarantee mode may be a safe and feasible mode during the weaning phase of very low-birth weight infants on mechanical ventilation support for respiratory distress syndrome with respect to reducing the frequency of postextubation atelectasis and using less peak inflation pressure.

Comparative StudyComparison of Three Different Timeframes for Pediatric Index of Mortality Data Collection in Transported Intensive Care Admissions.
To identify the most appropriate timeframe for Pediatric Index of Mortality-2 data collection in patients transported to PICUs by specialist teams. ⋯ The findings of our single-center study do not support the need for different timeframes for Pediatric Index of Mortality-2 data collection in transported and direct PICU admissions. Uniformity in scoring procedure may simplify data collection and improve data quality.

Analgesia-Sedation in PICU and Neurological Outcome: A Secondary Analysis of Long-Term Neuropsychological Follow-Up in Meningococcal Septic Shock Survivors.
To investigate whether analgesic and sedative drug use during PICU treatment is associated with long-term neurodevelopmental outcome in children who survived meningococcal septic shock. ⋯ The use of opioids during PICU admission was significantly associated with long-term adverse neuropsychological outcome independent of severity of illness scores in meningococcal septic shock survivors.
