Nager syndrome (preaxial acrofacial dysostosis) is rare and mostly sporadic. We present a case of Nager syndrome in Taiwan. ⋯ Patent ductus arteriosus, atrial septal defect, lower limb deformities, and uncommon flat nasal bridge were noted. Nasal endotube passing through a narrowing oropharynx region or oral airway is life-saving before tracheostomy is performed on patients with Nager syndrome and restricted jaw opening and glossoptosis.

Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich (HWW) syndrome is a rare variant of Müllerian duct anomalies consisting of uterine didelphys, obstructed hemivagina, and ipsilateral renal agenesis. Patients with HWW syndrome are usually asymptomatic until menarche, when they present with acute lower abdominal pain. Here we report a case of a female newborn with right renal agenesis diagnosed during the pregnancy. The patient presented with a protruding mass over the vaginal introitus that was associated with an obstructed hemivagina and uterine didelphys.

Abdominal pain is one of the most common complaints made by patients visiting emergency departments; however, ovarian torsion is an uncommon cause of abdominal pain, especially in young children. Early diagnosis is essential in order to salvage the ovaries. We performed a retrospective analysis of patients under 18 years of age who visited Changhua Christian Hospital with adnexal torsion between June 2003 and June 2010. ⋯ Although it is uncommon, adnexal torsion should be included in the differential diagnosis of lower abdominal pain in all girls, regardless of age. Sonography is helpful for making such a diagnosis. Time is a critical factor, and early laparoscopy or laparotomy may save a viable ovary.

Comparative Study
Comparison of pigtail catheter with chest tube for drainage of parapneumonic effusion in children.
The use of thoracostomy tube for drainage of parapneumonic effusion is an important therapeutic measure. In this study, we compared the effectiveness and complications between chest tube and pigtail catheter thoracostomy for drainage of parapneumonic pleural effusion in children. ⋯ The effectiveness and complications of the pigtail catheter were comparable to those of the chest tubes.

Pyomyositis is a pyogenic muscular tissue infection mainly occurring in immunocompromised patients. Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) accounts for only 2-3% of cases of childhood leukemia. Herein, we report on a 17-year-old male with bilateral hip pain caused by adductor pyomyositis before beginning the treatment course of CML. ⋯ There was no residual disability. This is the first report of bilateral hip pain caused by pyomyositis as the initial presentation of CML. Pyomyositis needs to be considered in the differential diagnosis of hip pain in pediatric patients.
