Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyEffectiveness of group versus individual cognitive-behavioral therapy in patients with abridged somatization disorder: a randomized controlled trial.
To evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of a cognitive-behavioral program for patients in primary care units who were diagnosed as having abridged somatization disorder. ⋯ CBT in individual and group settings results in significant improvements in somatic symptoms among patients with somatoform abridged disorder compared with TAU. Randomized Controlled TrialReduction of motion sickness with an enhanced placebo instruction: an experimental study with healthy participants.
Expectancy and conditioning are underlying mechanisms of placebo and nocebo responses. In previous studies with motion sickness, we could induce nocebo responses by both methods, but no placebo responses. ⋯ Verbal suggestions combined with a conditioning procedure are effective in reducing symptoms of motion sickness.

Positive and negative affect dimensions in chronic knee osteoarthritis: effects on clinical and laboratory pain.
This study investigated whether daily and laboratory assessed pain differs as a function of the temporal stability and valence of affect in individuals with chronic knee osteoarthritis (KOA). ⋯ Stable NA is more predictive of clinical pain than stable PA, whereas state PA is more predictive of both clinical and laboratory pain than state NA. The findings suggest that dynamic affect-pain processes in the field may reflect individual differences in central pain facilitation.

Psychological and physiological predictors of angina during exercise-induced ischemia in patients with coronary artery disease.
This study compares sensory-biological, cognitive-emotional, and cognitive-interpretational factors in predicting angina on an exercise treadmill test (ETT). ⋯ In patients with ischemia, cognitive-emotional and cognitive-interpretational factors are important predictors of exercise angina.
