To determine the safety and efficacy of topical anesthesia in posterior vitrectomy. ⋯ Topical anesthesia combined with systemic sedation and analgesia in posterior vitrectomy procedures provided sufficient analgesic effects in selected patients needing no scleral buckling and with short predicted surgery time.

The current study was conducted to determine whether topical anesthesia with oral sedation and without an anesthetist present in the operating room is a safe and cost-effective strategy for low-risk patients undergoing cataract surgery. ⋯ Topical anesthesia appears to be a safe alternative to injection anesthesia without many of the disadvantages of the latter and may be preferable in carefully selected patients.

Latanoprost versus timolol gel-forming solution once daily in primary open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
To compare the efficacy and safety of latanoprost and timolol gel-forming solution (GFS). ⋯ Latanoprost is more effective than timolol GFS in reducing IOP, and patients switched from timolol GFS to latanoprost have a further significant reduction in IOP.
