A variable proportion of isolates of multidrug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis also presents resistance to ethionamide. It is important to determine whether resistance to isoniazid is independent or crossed with resistance to ethionamide, given that this could lead to the re-evaluation of second-line anti-tuberculosis treatment. The GenoType MTBDR plus ® molecular test is used for the detection of MDR-MTB, as it identifies mutations associated with resistance to isoniazide and could detect cross-resistance with ethionamide. ⋯ GenoType MTBDR plus ® is able to detect resistance to isoniazid rapidly. Our results suggest that it could also be used to screen for cross-resistance with ethionamide.

Myasthenia gravis is an antibody-mediated autoimmune disease. Approximately 10-15% of patients present with a thymoma, the presence of which is associated with greater severity of symptoms, myasthenic crisis, and irresponsiveness to front-line therapy. A thymectomy is recommended in young patients with generalized myasthenia gravis and in all patients presenting with thymoma. ⋯ Patients with myasthenia gravis and those with myasthenia-related thymoma both share thymectomy as an element of treatment. However, following the procedure, exacerbation or reappearance of symptoms does not necessarily represent new alterations in the thymus.

[Physical activity levels among Colombian adults: inequalities by gender and socioeconomic status].
Worldwide studies show inequalities in physical activity levels related to socio-demographic characteristics. In Colombia, among the countries in Latin America with the highest inequality, the evidence related to inequalities in physical activity is limited. It is imperative to identify disparities in physical activity in the country, to guide the design of public policies aimed at promoting physical activity. ⋯ Future interventions to increase physical activity levels in Colombia must consider inequalities by gender and socioeconomic status. Of special concern is the low prevalence of meeting physical activity recommendations during leisure time in both women and in the low socioeconomic status population.
