Cardiovascular complications in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage are considered to be a neurally mediated process rather than a manifestation of coronary artery disease. ⋯ Cardiac dysfunction in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage are considered to be a neurally mediated process rather than a manifestation of coronary artery disease. Early treatment of cerebral injury could be reduce incidence of cardiac complications after traumatic brain injury. Cardiac dysfunction in patients with SAH is still very high, despite substantial qualitative progress in their treatment.

To analyze the rate of mortality in children with foreign body aspiration (FBA). ⋯ For prevention of foreign body aspiration in children and its mortality should be taken two strategies: non-medical (alterations in product design and public education campaigns) and medical (education of medical staff and improvement of equipment).

The gene for 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (NAD(P)H) or MTHFR gene encodes protein methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR), an enzyme important in folate metabolism. ⋯ Regarding the two MTHFR polymorphisms, three of the nine combined genotypes were present in 87.2% of the population. 33.54% subjects were complex heterozygous (677CT/1298AC genotype), 34.15% subjects had 677CC/1298AC and 19.51% of 677CT/1298AA genotype. The subjects with 677TT genotype had a 1298AA or 1298AC genotype while subjects with 1298CC genotype had only 677CC genotype. The subjects with 677CC/1298AA genotype were only 3.05%. We were not found triple 677CT/1298CC and quadruple 677TT/1298CC mutation suggesting decreased viability of embryos with increased numbers of mutant alleles.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
An Open Label Randomized Controlled Trial to Compare Low Level Pressure Support and T-piece as Strategies for Discontinuation of Mechanical Ventilation in a General Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of continuous low pressure support (PSV) and T-piece as strategies for discontinuation of mechanical ventilation and extubation in a surgical ICU. ⋯ Although PSV needs a higher number of SBT trial before success and extubation, the re-intubation within 48 hours is lower than T piece. However, there were no differences between the groups in term of pneumonia after extubation, hospital mortality as well as ICU and hospital length of stay.

Postoperative bleeding in patients who underwent elective coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) may increase due to preoperative anticoagulant therapy indicative of their disease - acute coronary syndrome or implanted coronary artery stent. Increased bleeding in many cases requires the use of blood and blood derivatives, and sometimes even reoperation. Their use poses the risk of complications, may extend the hospitalization. ⋯ In our study, we could not demonstrate less postoperative bleeding and use of blood and blood products in a group of patients who were preoperatively treated with aspirin compared to patients with dual antiplatelet therapy in the elective isolated CABG surgery.
