The incidence of cancer is higher in transplant patients than in the normal population, mostly due to the assumption of immunosuppressants able to reduce the possibility of rejection. In addition, immunocompromised patients have a greater susceptibility to EBV, HPV and HIV, infectious agents that by themselves may favor the onset of malignancies. Post-transplant lymphoproliferative diseases (PLDs) are among the most frequent neoplasms in transplant patients which like other aggressive neoplasms may be identified by the [18f] fluoro-D-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT). ⋯ In the present study, FDG-PET/CT examination was of great use for an early identification and for an early treatment of PTLDs and other neoplasms.

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is a valuable treatment option for patients with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and low-flow/low-gradient (LF/LG) aortic stenosis (AS). According to current literature, the presence of severe AS is unlikely in case of severely reduced LVEF and mean pressure gradient (meanPG) below 30 mmHg. However, a considerable number of patients presenting with typical clinical symptoms of severe AS, show gradients below 30 mmHg. We hypothesized, that these patients undergoing TAVI do have a measurable clinical benefit and an improved LVEF. ⋯ Based on our findings TAVI represents a valuable treatment option even in patients with LF/LG AS and PGmean below 30mmHg.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is often associated with clinical, psychological and neuropsychological comorbidities such as Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). This study evaluated changes in clinical, psychosocial, Health Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) and neuropsychological profile in OSA subjects after ventilatory therapy, making comparison with normative data. The aim of the study was to verify the suitability of the HRQoL and neuropsychological screening tests in detecting variations in OSA subjects. ⋯ Ventilatory therapy provided during a rehabilitative and interdisciplinary program increased subjects' HRQoL, executive functions and verbal memory.
