In Italy, many patients with B-virus (HBV) and Delta-virus (HDV) end-stage liver disease, are potential candidates to liver transplantation. Several authors have reported 70 to 100% hepatitis recurrence rates. ⋯ A detailed report of 17 of these patients with a follow-up longer 7 months, and the clinical course of 4 patients with HBV reinfection, 3 of which had hepatitis recurrence, is also presented. The occurrence of HDV-RNA in the serum of 5 patients, that were negative for HBsAg and also other HBV-HDV replication markers after transplantation is discussed, together with the observation that in these patients no hepatitis recurrences or alteration of the clinical course were evident.

We studied the clinical and instrumental modifications of 20 patients (mean age: 67.95 +/- 1.23 years; 13 males, 7 females) suffering from COPD (less than 65% theoretical FEV1), during treatment with bamiphylline. At basal time, and after 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 months of therapy we performed a clinical and spirometric examination. All spirometric parameters (FEV1, VC, MEF25-75, Tiffeneau Index) increased significantly (p less than 0.01 - ANOVA1) since the first control performed after 1 month of treatment. ⋯ Analogue results were observed for emogasanalytical (P-CO2-PO2) and clinical (cough and dyspnoea) parameters. During the experimental research we did not observe side effects due to the xanthine-derivative (bamiphylline) under study or modifications of the main haematochemical tests. Therefore we believe that bamiphylline must be considered an effective therapeutic tool for COPD therapy.

[CT in the study of a dissecting aortic aneurysm at the moment of rupture and complicated by left hemothorax].
The diagnostic capacity of computed tomography in a rupture of a thoracic aorta aneurysm complicated by hemothorax is examined. Both the case examined and reports in the literature show the greatest importance and utility of CT for correct emergency diagnosis, in high risk patients, when other systems cannot be used in the first instance.

We investigated a series of 30 patients younger than 40 years with histologically proven bronchogenic carcinoma. Most patients were symptomatic for a mean duration of 3 months before examination. The most common cell types were squamous carcinoma in 10 patients, oat cell carcinoma in 9 patients, and adenocarcinoma in 5 patients. ⋯ The average length of survival for the nonoperated patients was 4.2 months (range 1 to 16 months). The mean survival for the surgically treated patients was 23.3 months (range 0 to 84 months). Extent of resection did not have any statistical significance in the survival rates which were mainly affected by staging of disease.

Comparative Study
[Extracorporeal support technics in the treatment of multisystem failure. Our experience].
Mortality rate among patients with septic, oliguric, multiple organ failure is high. Conventional hemodialysis has often detrimental effects on critically ill patients. Continuous arteriovenous hemofiltration (CAVH), continuous arteriovenous hemodialysis (CAVH/D) and continuous arteriovenous hemodialysis associated with sequential plasmapheresis (CAVHP/D) could reduce mortality in septic (hypercatabolic, oliguric) ARDS induced MOF patients. These techniques are simple and can be managed without superspecialized personnel.
