Fenofibrate (FF) has been suggested as a second-line therapy for primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) with suboptimal response to ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA). But its long-term effect is unclear. ⋯ Adding FF improves GLOBE and UK-PBC scores and is also associated with the improvements or stabilization of disease features, including fibrosis and ductular injury.

The association between Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is subject of a contentious debate. Data mainly stem from Asian cohorts whereas European data are scarce. We, therefore, investigated an Austrian colorectal cancer screening cohort for an association between Hp and NAFLD. ⋯ In this Central European cohort, Hp-positivity was not associated with the diagnosis of NAFLD. Although Hp positive patients seem to be more likely to have a concomitant NAFLD diagnosis, this association might rather relate to a cardiometabolic risk phenotype than causality.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of adiponectin in non-alcoholic fatty liver cell model and its mechanism. ⋯ APN was lowly expressed in the serum of NAFLD patients. Its effect mechanism was to alleviate the injury of NAFLD cells by reducing oxidative stress via regulating NOX2 expression.
