Cannabis poisoning is rarely reported in young children. We present the case of a child twenty months old admitted to the Emergency Room because of sopor, hypotonia and miosis. This is the first out of 1150 poisonings under the age of five registered at Trieste between 1975-1992. Cannabis poisoning has to be considered despite its rarity in a child with neurologic symptoms of unknown etiology and acute onset, especially when family behaviour is suspect for toxicomania.

We present two children, respectively five and six years old, misdiagnosed and treated as asthmatics in allergological centers. After admission to our department, endobronchial inflammatory pseudotumor and lung tuberculosis were diagnosed respectively. While endobronchial pseudotumor is rather rare, lung tuberculosis is a less rare diagnosis that must be considered in patients with a history of persistent and recurrent coughing with or without wheezing, especially when there is no family history of atopical diseases and skin allergic tests are negative, and the social and economic conditions at risk.

[Slipped capital femoral epiphysis and biosynthetic growth hormone therapy. A case report].
The case of an adolescent male with short stature and partial growth hormone deficiency who developed a slipped capital femoral epiphysis during the treatment with recombinant growth hormone is reported in this paper. Our patient started GH therapy with recombinant growth hormone at the dose of 15 U/m2/week administered subcutaneously three times a week. After 6 months of GH therapy there was a satisfactory response to the therapy and his growth velocity improved significantly. ⋯ This condition can occur only before the epiphyseal plate closes. Patients vary in age from newborn infant to teenager, nevertheless slipped capital femoral epiphysis is probably the most common hip disease during adolescence, and is often associated with endocrine imbalance including growth hormone deficiency. The aetiology of slipped capital femoral epiphysis is still unknown although many theories have been proposed.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Acute appendicitis is the first cause of emergency surgery in children. Actually, emergency abdominal sonography has evolved in differential diagnosis of acute appendicitis in children to differentiate it from other causes of acute abdomen as mesenteric lymphoadenitis, acute right pyelonephritis, acute diverticulitis in Meckel's diverticulum, intestinal intussusception, regional enterits, primary peritonitis, anaphylactoid purpura of Henoch-Schonlein. The aim of this study is the evaluation of the usefulness of abdominal sonography in diagnosing acute appendicitis in our current series of pediatric patients. ⋯ Mean duration of hospital stay was 6.35 days (3-15 days). Differential diagnosis of acute appendicitis can be extremely variable, from simple, paradigmatic situations to the most intriguing ones. This concept is well emphasized by William Silen when he says that "differential diagnosis of acute appendicits is an encyclopedic compendium of every abdominal disease that causes pain" in the 11th edition of Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
