Case Reports[Trachea compression due to a Kommerell diverticulum in a patient with a right-sided aorta].
A 64-year-old man who was evaluated for a long history of a discontinuous barking cough with difficulty in coughing up sputum was found to have 90% stenosis of the trachea. Further imaging studies revealed a right-sided descending aorta with an aberrant left subclavian artery arising from a Kommerell diverticulum. This caused the compression of the trachea. The compression was relieved by transposition of the aberrant left subclavian artery to the ascending aorta and replacement of the aneurysmatic part of the aorta by an endoprosthesis.

[A retrospective study on the role of antibodies against soluble liver antigen (anti-SLA antibodies) and other autoantibodies in the diagnostics of autoimmune hepatitis].
To determine the diagnostic value of antibodies against soluble liver antigen (anti-SLA antibodies) and a number of other antibodies for the diagnosis ofautoimmune hepatitis (AIH). ⋯ When AIH is suspected, the presence of one or a combination ofanti-SLA, ANA, anti-SMA, anti-LKM-1 and pANCA antibodies is helpful for the often difficult differential diagnosis between AIH and other liver disorders. Anti-SLA antibodies are specific for AIH and appear to be a useful diagnostic parameter.

[Results of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation following cardiac surgery in 16 children in the St Radboud University Medical Centre, 1996-2004].
Description of the results with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in infants with cardiorespiratory failure after open-heart surgery. ⋯ 17 ECMO treatments were carried out in 16 paediatric patients: 7 girls and 9 boys. All patients had severe circulatory failure, sometimes combined with respiratory insufficiency. The patients' average age was 8 months (range: 1 day-3 years and 10 months). The average duration of treatment was 137 hours (range: 8-433). In 12 of the 17 ECMO treatments, the patient was successfully weaned from ECMO and 7 patients were discharged home. 5 patients died in hospital after successful ECMO treatment. 10 of the 16 patients died. A functional univentricular heart was associated with a high mortality. Haemorrhage, renal insufficiency and; sepsis were the most frequent complications. Major causes of death were sepsis, multi-organ failure and pulmonary hypertension.
