Brachiocephalic-superior vena cava metallic stenting in malignant superior vena cava obstruction.
We studied the effectiveness of unilateral brachiocephalic (BC)-superior vena cava (SVC) metallic stent therapy in malignant SVC obstruction. ⋯ Unilateral BC-SVC metallic stenting is an effective measure in malignant SVC obstruction. Prompt pre-stenting work-up and stenting are recommended to achieve a longer symptomatic relief period.

Conductive hearing loss, in the presence of a normal external ear, is usually due to an interference with the normal transmission of sound from the tympanic membrane across the ossicular chain to the oval window. If conductive hearing loss occurs in a young child, congenital middle ear pathology is the most likely cause. ⋯ With proper imaging technique and a systemic analysis of the images, the abnormalities that result in congenital middle ear deafness can usually be demonstrated on most occasions.

Comparative StudyDiffusion-weighted MR imaging in intracranial infections.
Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance (MR) imaging (DWMRI) is valuable in the assessment of acute cerebral infarction and may be useful for other diseases of the central nervous system (CNS). In this study, we present the DWMRI appearance of intracranial infection. ⋯ DWMRI increased lesion conspicuity and may be useful in assessment of cerebral infection. There were striking differences in the DWMRI appearances caused by different organisms and diseases.

ReviewLong-term follow-up and outcome of extremely-low-birth-weight (ELBW) infants.
Modern day obstetric and neonatal care has dramatically increased the survival of the extremely-low-birth-weight (ELBW) neonates. As the limits of viability decrease, it is of paramount importance to have reliable data on long-term morbidity. Long-term follow-up of these high-risk survivors is thus becoming an integral part of neonatal intensive care units. ⋯ In managing ELBW infants, a holistic, systematic approach is needed to assess the degree and impact of impairment on their daily function and issues related to quality of life.
