Considering the insufficient understanding of pulmonary cryptococcosis (PC) with consolidation, 22 patients were evaluated based on the chest computed tomography (CT) images and clinical manifestation. The clinical symptoms were mild, mainly manifesting as cough and sputum. Pulmonary lesions mostly involved a single lobe in a single lung with multiple lesions. ⋯ Seventeen cases had pleural thickening, of which 10 cases had "pasting wall" signs. The clinical symptoms of PC with consolidation were relatively mild. Comprehensive clinical and imaging performance could improve the diagnosis of the disease.

Sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis (SEP) is a rare cause of acute abdomen and can be easily misdiagnosed. Preoperative diagnosis of the SEP can be performed with preoperative imaging studies. We aimed to evaluate the clinical features of ileus cases who were diagnosed with primary or secondary SEP in the last five years. ⋯ SEP should be considered in the case of recurrent abdominal pain attacks, especially in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis, and it should be known that the mortality rate is high when misdiagnosed.

Laboratory services play an important role in optimizing patient care today, and the importance of clinical laboratories is now widely accepted in medical practice. A critical value, originally described by Lundberg more than 30 years ago, refers to an abnormal test result that can lead to a serious life threat if not reported in a timely manner. In this study, we tried to determine the importance of critical values that can lead to a serious life threat with regard to their prevalence and frequency in laboratory tests of Iranian patients. ⋯ To maintain patient safety, proper recording of the results in laboratory tests and prompt reporting of critical values to the health care staff before repeating the test should be emphasized.

The recent increase in measles cases will result in a higher incidence of associated complications. Hepatobiliary complications are among rare complications of measles. Here, we present a case of measles complicated by acute acalculous cholecystitis (AAC), which we believe to be only the second case reported in the literature. ⋯ Two days later, laparoscopic cholecystectomy was performed due to persistent fever and abdominal pain. The pathology result was consistent with nonspecific cholecystitis. As this case highlights, it should be kept in mind that AAC, which is a rare complication of the multisystem involvement caused by measles, can occur during recovery from the infection.

The aim of our study differs from similar studies since we compared superiority and similarity of segmentectomy performed for early-stage lung cancer over lobectomy in terms of clinical and oncological results. ⋯ If there is no contraindication, segmentectomy can be considered as the surgical treatment for lung adenocarcinomas with tumor size of 2 cm or less and a minimum 1 cm clean surgical margin.
