The confirmed cases in the current outbreak of Monkeypox are predominantly identified in the networks of men who have sex with men (MSM). The preexisting antibodies may profoundly impact the transmission of monkeypox virus (MPXV), however the current-day prevalence of antibodies against MPXV among gay men is not well characterized. ⋯ Anti-MPXV and anti-vaccinia antibodies could be readily detected in an MSM cohort and a general population cohort. And a higher level of anti-vaccinia neutralizing antibody responses was observed among individuals who did not get vaccinated against smallpox in the MSM cohort compared to age-matched individuals in the general population cohort.

Observational Study
Increasing emergency number utilisation is not driven by low-acuity calls: an observational study of 1.5 million emergency calls (2018-2021) from Berlin.
The Emergency Medical Service (EMS) in Germany is increasingly challenged by strongly rising demand. Speculations about a greater utilisation for minor cases have led to intensive media coverage, but empirical evidence is lacking. We investigated the development of low-acuity calls from 2018 to 2021 in the federal state of Berlin and its correlations with sociodemographic characteristics. ⋯ This analysis provides valuable new insights into pre-hospital emergency care. Low-acuity calls were not the primary driver of increased EMS utilisation in Berlin. Younger age is the strongest predictor for low-acuity calls in the model. The association with female gender is significant, while socially deprived neighbourhoods play a minor role. No statistically significant differences in call volume between densely and less densely populated regions were detected. The results can inform the EMS in future resource planning.

As new, efficacious respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) immunization products reach the market, affordable pricing as well as improved estimation of disease burden and the full potential and cost effectiveness of RSV prevention in the hardest hit geographies in low- and middle-income countries are critical to inform country adoption and enable maximum impact against infant disease and mortality globally. The data reported in the special issue underscore the enormous burden, and associated cost, of RSV disease in young infants in several LMICs, including Kenya and South Africa, as well as the potential for RSV maternal vaccines or long-acting monoclonal antibodies, to be cost-effective and possibly even cost-saving.

In high-dimensional data (HDD) settings, the number of variables associated with each observation is very large. Prominent examples of HDD in biomedical research include omics data with a large number of variables such as many measurements across the genome, proteome, or metabolome, as well as electronic health records data that have large numbers of variables recorded for each patient. The statistical analysis of such data requires knowledge and experience, sometimes of complex methods adapted to the respective research questions. ⋯ This review aims to provide a solid statistical foundation for researchers, including statisticians and non-statisticians, who are new to research with HDD or simply want to better evaluate and understand the results of HDD analyses.

Meta Analysis
Accuracy of minimal residual disease detection by circulating tumor DNA profiling in lung cancer: a meta-analysis.
The sensitivity and specificity of minimal residual disease detected by circulating tumor DNA profiling (ctDNA MRD) in lung cancer, with particular attention to the distinction between landmark strategy and surveillance strategy, for predicting relapse in lung cancer patients after definitive therapy has yet to be determined. ⋯ Our study suggests that ctDNA MRD is a relatively promising biomarker for relapse prediction among lung cancer patients after definitive therapy, with a high specificity but suboptimal sensitivity, whether in landmark strategy or surveillance strategy. Although surveillance ctDNA MRD analysis decreases specificity compared with the landmark strategy, the decrease is minimal compared to the increase in sensitivity for relapse prediction of lung cancer.
