The associations of weight change with all-cause and cause-specific mortality stratified by age remains unclear. We evaluated the age-stratified (< 65 vs ≥ 65 years) associations of weight change with all-cause and cause-specific mortality in a large sample of Chinese adults. ⋯ Weight loss and excessive weight gain were associated with increased risks of mortality among older adults, while only excessive weight loss was associated with increased risks of mortality among middle-aged adults.

Health-related stigma and its internalization among individuals with chronic health conditions contribute to impaired mental and physical health and quality of life. Research on health-related stigma has been siloed, with disease-specific measures that may not capture the experiences of individuals with multiple health conditions and that prevent comparisons across health conditions. The current study aimed to develop and test a transdiagnostic measure of internalized health-related stigma for use among adults with different physical health conditions. ⋯ The I-HEARTS Scale is a reliable and valid measure for the assessment of internalized health-related stigma among adults with varied stigmatized chronic health conditions. A voluntary National Healthy Food and Drink Policy (the Policy) was introduced in public hospitals in New Zealand in 2016. This study assessed the changes in implementation of the Policy and its impact on providing healthier food and drinks for staff and visitors in four district health boards between 1 and 5 years after the initial Policy introduction. ⋯ Introduction of the Policy improved the relative healthiness of food and drinks available, but the proportion of red items remained high. More dedicated support is required to fully implement the Policy.

Telomere length (TL), mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNAcn), and DNA methylation age (DNAmAge) are common aging biomarkers. However, research on the associations between these three markers at birth and subsequent metabolic status was limited. This study aimed to evaluate the association between TL, mtDNAcn, and DNAmAge in newborns and the variation in metabolic hormones of children at 3 years old. ⋯ In this prospective birth cohort study, variation in metabolic hormones of children at 3 years old was associated with TL, mtDNAcn, and DNAmAge at birth. These findings suggested that TL, mtDNAcn, and DNAmAge might play a role in the biological programming of metabolic health from birth.

The majority of men referred with a raised PSA for suspected prostate cancer will receive unnecessary tertiary investigations including MRI and biopsy. Here, we compared different types of biomarkers to refine tertiary referrals and when different definitions of clinically significant cancer were used. ⋯ Incorporating phi or PSAd can refine and tier who is referred for tertiary imaging and/or biopsy after a raised PSA test. Incremental value however varied depending on the definition of clinical significance and was particularly useful when composite prognostic endpoints are used.
