Interpregnancy interval (IPI) is associated with a variety of adverse maternal and infant outcomes. However, reports of its associations with early infant neurodevelopment are limited and the mechanisms of this association have not been elucidated. Maternal-fetal glucose metabolism has been shown to be associated with infant neurodevelopmental. The objective of this study was to determine whether this metabolism plays a role in the relationship between IPI and neurodevelopment. ⋯ IPI < 12 months was associated with failing the communication domain in infants. Maternal-fetal glucose metabolism abnormality may partially explain the risk of neurodevelopmental delay caused by short IPI.

Mental disorders are among the top causes of disease burden worldwide. Existing evidence regarding the repurposing of antihypertensives for mental disorders treatment is conflicting and cannot establish causation. ⋯ Antihypertensive drugs have no protection for mental disorders but potential harm. Their long-term use among hypertensive patients with, or with high susceptibility to, psychiatric illness needs careful evaluation.

Effects of acetazolamide combined with remote ischemic preconditioning on risk of acute mountain sickness: a randomized clinical trial.
We aimed to determine whether and how the combination of acetazolamide and remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) reduced the incidence and severity of acute mountain sickness (AMS). ⋯ The combination of acetazolamide and RIPC exerts a powerful anti-hypoxic effect and represents an innovative and promising strategy for rapid ascent to high altitudes. Acetazolamide improves oxygen saturation. RIPC further aids acetazolamide, which synergistically regulates PDGF-AB, potentially involved in the pathogenesis of AMS.
