Gastric cancer is common and can be found throughout the world. Notoriously like other cancers, gastric cancer is a consequence of cellular regulation disorder. Epigenetics, including many oncogenes or tumour suppressor genes, can provide some clues for this kind of disorder. DNA methylation, especially promoter methylation, which causes the silence/decrease of tumour related genes, has become a focus in various tumour types. The aim of this study was to investigate promoter methylation of certain genes: p16, survivin, retinoblastoma (Rb), all of which have been regarded as genes related to gastric cancer. ⋯ In this study, promoter methylation was observed for the p16 gene, which was considered an early potential marker in gastric cancer. This data supports that further investigations should study Rb and survivin as candidate markers for gastric cancer (Tab. 2, Fig. 1, Ref. 35).

Different adjuvants and delivery systems have been used to enhance the potency of DNA vaccines against viral diseases. Among them, heat shock proteins (HSPs) are stress proteins that have multiple roles such as chaperon activity and anti-apoptotic and adjuvant properties. The goal of this study was to compare the expression of HIV-1 Nef, Hsp27 and Hsp27-Nef genes transfected in HEK-293T mammalian cells by TurboFect and Lipofectamine as a cationic polymer and lipid, respectively. ⋯ Generally, Hsp27 can be used as a suitable carrier in DNA vaccine design against HIV-1 infections (Fig. 5, Ref. 28).

To identify possible association between the selected HLA-G gene polymorphisms and risk of pre-eclampsia. ⋯ Genetic predisposition of HLA-G to pre-eclampsia in Slovak women was examined for the first time. No association between analysed HLA-G gene polymorphisms and susceptibility to pre-eclampsia was observed. Further investigations are needed to determine the role of immunosuppressive molecule HLA-G in pre-eclampsia development (Tab. 5, Fig. 2, Ref. 37).

Staurospurine induces apoptosis in cell line. Bone Marrow Mesenchymal stem cells Soup is a promising tool for cell proliferation via a variety of secreted factors. In this study, we examined the effects of BMSCs Soup on Staurospurine induced-cell death in MCF-7 and AGS cells. ⋯ It's concluded that BMSCs soup suppressed staurospurine-induced cytotoxicity activity process in MCF-7 and AGS cells (Fig. 9, Ref. 79).

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used analgesics worldwide in different syndromes. There is a relevant evidence about NSAIDs various adverse effects (AEs) on gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, renal, pulmonary, nervous systems. Many of these problems are preventable with respects to appropriate patient´s risk perception. ⋯ Our study revealed a restricted knowledge about risk of NSAIDs in the studied population and showed some important data related to the presence of comorbidity in patients, which could potentiate the risk of cardiovascular AEs (Fig. 5, Ref. 22).
