In the 21st century, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) has emerged as a diagnostic and therapeutic method for diseases of the pancreaticobiliary duct system. However, like any other diagnostic and therapeutic method, ERCP carries the risk of unwanted complications. ⋯ Ensuring proper preparation and appropriate indication for ERCP examination can significantly mitigate the risk of post-ERCP complications. Additionally, early diagnosis and prompt treatment of any post-ERCP complications are essential strategies for reducing mortality associated with these conditions (Tab. 3, Fig. 3, Ref. 32). Patients with chronic pancreatitis are at risk of developing malabsorption and malnutrition. Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency is accompanied by decreased serum micronutrient levels and low vitamin D levels are a frequent finding in up to 60-80% of patients. The aim of our prospective study was to investigate vitamin D in the blood serum of subjects with chronic pancreatitis with the possibility of influencing the reduced vitamin D levels with supplementation therapy. ⋯ Blood serum vitamin D levels are significantly reduced in people with chronic pancreatitis. Its correction by oral vitamin D supplementation was effective. Whether this adjustment of levels will be effective also in terms of e.g. beneficial effect on fibrogenesis will require further representative studies, because the limitation of the interpretation of the results of our study is the smaller number of subjects with chronic pancreatitis (Tab. 4, Ref. 29).

To investigate the relationship of sarcopenia with systemic inflammation response index (SIRI), monocyte to high-density lipoprotein ratio (MHR) and platelet parameters in geriatric patients. ⋯ The finding of higher MHR and SIRI in geriatric sarcopenia patients supports low-grade chronic inflammation in the pathophysiology of sarcopenia. These non-invasive, cost-effective and simple parameters based on traditional peripheral blood cell counts may be warning signs for sarcopenia in the geriatric population (Tab. 3, Fig. 1, Ref. 25). Clinical assessment and laboratory markers provide valuable information on tissue perfusion and enhance the optimalisation of management in the treatment of patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The PCO2 gap is a reliable marker of cardiac output (CO) and perfusion. The aim of this study was to evaluate the PCO2 gap as a marker of tissue hypoperfusion and to compare it to lactate and SvO2. ⋯ The PCO2 gap is a valuable biomarker for monitoring tissue perfusion in patients on ECMO. Non-invasive diabetes detection refers to the utilization and development of technologies and methods that can monitor and diagnose diabetes without requiring invasive procedures, namely invasive glucose monitoring or blood sampling. The objective is to provide a more convenient and less burdensome approach to screening and management of diabetes. It is noteworthy that while non-invasive method offers promising avenues for diabetes detection, they frequently require validation through clinical studies and might have limitation in terms of reliability and accuracy than classical invasive approaches. ⋯ A series of simulations were conducted on the diabetes dataset to assess the diabetes detection performance of the BFHODL-NIDDC technique. The experimental outcomes illustrated better performance of the BFHODL-NIDDC method over other recent approaches in terms of different metrics (Tab. 4, Fig. 9, Ref. 23).
