Clinical assessment and laboratory markers provide valuable information on tissue perfusion and enhance the optimalisation of management in the treatment of patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The PCO2 gap is a reliable marker of cardiac output (CO) and perfusion. The aim of this study was to evaluate the PCO2 gap as a marker of tissue hypoperfusion and to compare it to lactate and SvO2. ⋯ The PCO2 gap is a valuable biomarker for monitoring tissue perfusion in patients on ECMO. We aimed to investigate the role and importance of immature granulocyte percentage and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio in the etiology, diagnosis and follow-up of acute pancreatitis (AP) in patients tentatively diagnosed with AP in the emergency department. We evaluated these factors alongside other established markers proven effective in the diagnosis and follow-up of AP. ⋯ IGC and IG% values emerged as superior indicators to other acute-phase reactants for detecting inflammation, determining its severity, and establishing prognosis in acute pancreatitis. While the N/L ratio remains an important parameter in acute pancreatitis, our findings indicate that it was not significantly superior to other investigated markers in terms of prognosis (Tab. 5, Ref. 35).

Interferon gamma release assay (IGRA) is an in vitro blood test to measure interferon gamma (IFN-γ) released from antigen-specific T cells after stimulation with pathogen-specific peptides. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the T-cell response using IGRA and to compare various laboratory values in Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) patients hospitalized either in hospital inpatient departments or in intensive care units. ⋯ The relatively higher IGRA negative results in the elderly, negative and intermediate results in intensive-care patients, and low lymphocyte levels in intensive-care patients indicate that the cellular immune response is diminished and/or absent. The death rates, D-dimer, CRP, procalcitonin, AST and ALT values of the patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit were higher compared to those from the in-patient department, indicating the severity of inflammation and signaling the development of organ failure. In the light of these findings, we suggest that IGRA tests may serve as a guide in immunomodulatory therapy (Tab. 2, Fig. 2, Ref. 27). Insulin resistance (IR) is the most significant risk factor for post-transplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM). This study aimed to determine the effects of regular physical activity on IR and PTDM in patients after kidney transplantation (KT). The study group (n = 22) participated in aerobic or combined sports (aerobic and anaerobic). ⋯ IR was significantly lower at 6 months (p = 0.0202), and fasting blood glucose was significantly lower at 3 and 6 months (p = 0.0227) in the observed group. We confirmed the significant effect of regular physical activity on preventing the development of IR and impaired fasting glucose levels in patients after KT (Tab. 1, Fig. 4, Ref. 27). Non-invasive diabetes detection refers to the utilization and development of technologies and methods that can monitor and diagnose diabetes without requiring invasive procedures, namely invasive glucose monitoring or blood sampling. The objective is to provide a more convenient and less burdensome approach to screening and management of diabetes. It is noteworthy that while non-invasive method offers promising avenues for diabetes detection, they frequently require validation through clinical studies and might have limitation in terms of reliability and accuracy than classical invasive approaches. ⋯ A series of simulations were conducted on the diabetes dataset to assess the diabetes detection performance of the BFHODL-NIDDC technique. The experimental outcomes illustrated better performance of the BFHODL-NIDDC method over other recent approaches in terms of different metrics (Tab. 4, Fig. 9, Ref. 23).
