Seizing the opportunity to improve patient care: pelvic floor services in 2021 and beyond.
Patients requiring pelvic floor and functional urological, gynaecological and coloproctological surgery were viewed as a low priority even before COVID-19. A consensus report outlines recommendations to improve care and encourage clinicians to help bring about positive changes for patients with pelvic floor problems.

This project explored how the implementation of national guidance for investigation and management of patients with suspected cauda equina syndrome impacted on service provision. ⋯ Compliance with the national guidance for suspected cauda equina syndrome is imperative for patients to receive optimal treatment. However, this project has demonstrated challenges related to increased pressure on resources.

Ruptures of the extensor mechanism of the knee are serious injuries requiring prompt diagnosis and treatment. They can be divided into soft tissue and bony causes. Soft tissue tendon injuries can be either partial or complete. ⋯ Causes can be direct or indirect. Complete ruptures of the quadriceps tendon or patella tendon benefit from early surgical management, while partial ruptures may be managed non-operatively. This article gives an overview of the presentation, assessment and management of soft tissue extensor mechanism tendon ruptures for core surgical, acute care common stem and emergency medicine trainees.
