Aims/Background Indeterminate cell histiocytosis is a rare proliferative histiocytic disease with an unknown aetiology, which shares immunophenotypic features of both Langerhans cells and macrophages. There is a relationship between indeterminate cell histiocytosis and cancer, while there are no reports about indeterminate cell histiocytosis and bullous pemphigoid. In this study, we reported the rare case of a patient with primary cutaneous indeterminate cell histiocytosis who had been diagnosed with oesophagal cancer and later developed bullous pemphigoid. ⋯ Histopathological examination of blisters and bullae on the lower limbs revealed a subepidermal blister with infiltration of a large number of eosinophils within the blister and the dermis beneath it. Direct immunofluorescence showed that immunoglobulin Gs (IgGs) were linearly deposited in the basal membrane zone. Conclusion The coexistence of oesophageal carcinoma, indeterminate cell histiocytosis, and bullous pemphigoid in a single patient represents a rare case that warrants consideration of possible underlying mechanisms.

Aims/Background Prostate cancer stands out as one of the most prevalent malignant tumours among males. The non-invasive identification of clinically significant prostate cancer via magnetic resonance imaging plays a critical role in circumventing unnecessary biopsies and determining suitable treatment strategies for patients. Our study aimed to evaluate the potential improvement in predictive accuracy for clinically significant prostate cancer by incorporating perfusion data obtained from dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging acquisition protocols into multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging parameters. ⋯ Radiomics based on perfusion parameters exhibited good diagnostic performance in predicting clinically significant prostate cancer. The clinical-prostate imaging reporting and data system-radscore model demonstrated superior diagnostic capability compared to perfusion-based radiomics or clinical-prostate imaging reporting and data system models alone. Conclusion The application of radiomics, which involves extracting perfusion parameters from dynamic contrast-enhanced imaging, has the potential to enhance diagnostic accuracy for clinically significant prostate cancer.

Aims/Background Rosuvastatin is a common lipid-lowering statin on the market, but its impact on the incidence of long-term cardiovascular events is not well clarified. This study aimed to explore the effects of rosuvastatin on serum asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) levels and the incidence of long-term cardiovascular events in patients with hyperlipidaemia and H-type hypertension. Methods This retrospective study included 158 patients with hyperlipidaemia and H-type hypertension who were treated in the Hebei Cangzhou Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine from August 2015 to August 2016. ⋯ Meanwhile, according to the ROC curve, serum ADMA had a good predictive efficacy for long-term cardiovascular events, with an area under the curve of 0.885 (95% confidence interval 0.808-0.963; p < 0.001). Conclusion Rosuvastatin can reduce ADMA levels and exert vascular protective effects. The increase in serum ADMA levels is closely related to the occurrence of long-term cardiovascular events in patients with hyperlipidaemia and H-type hypertension, serving as a potential clinical predictor to guide disease prevention and treatment.

A 35-year-old otherwise healthy gentleman from Togo, was referred as a 'walk-in' to our clinic with polyuria and polydipsia, and a glycated haemoglobin (Hba1c) of 119 mmol/mol (13.1%). The patient also noted 5kg weight loss over a short span of time. He had a significant family history of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). ⋯ Urinalysis showed glycosuria (1000 mg/dL) but was negative for nitrites and white cells. Renal, liver and thyroid function tests were all within normal limits. He had mild metabolic acidosis.

Academic hospitalists play an integral role in the day-to-day care of hospitalized patients, education and research. They are well-positioned to engage in scholarly and research activities and inform clinical practice. ⋯ Participation in these endeavors not only foster scholarly growth but also enhances career satisfaction for hospitalists. Therefore, there is a need to explore and implement feasible strategies to equip hospitalists with the knowledge and resources necessary to generate scholarship and promote academic growth within the field.
