Value of STOP-Bang questionnaire in screening patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome in sleep disordered breathing clinic.
Obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is the most common sleep-disordered breathing and is still underdiagnosed. This study was designed to evaluate the value of the STOP-Bang questionnaire (SBQ) in screening OSAHS in sleep-disordered breathing clinics in order to extend it into the general Chinese population. ⋯ The STOP-Bang questionnaire has excellent sensitivity in screening OSAHS patients and can predict the severity of OSAHS. More studies will be required to determine the value of SBQ in the general Chinese population.

Effect of two volume responsiveness evaluation methods on fluid resuscitation and prognosis in septic shock patients.
Few studies have reported the effect of different volume responsiveness evaluation methods on volume therapy results and prognosis. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of two volume responsiveness evaluation methods, stroke volume variation (SVV) and stroke volume changes before and after passive leg raising (PLR-ΔSV), on fluid resuscitation and prognosis in septic shock patients. ⋯ In septic shock patients under controlled ventilation and without arrhythmia, using SVV or PLR-ΔSV methods to evaluate volume responsiveness has a similar effect on volume therapy results and prognosis. The evaluation and dynamic monitoring of volume responsiveness is more important for fluid resuscitation than the evaluation methods themselves. Choosing different methods to evaluate volume responsiveness has no significant influence on the effect of volume therapy and prognosis.

Epidemiology of acute kidney injury in intensive care septic patients based on the KDIGO guidelines.
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication of sepsis, which is associated with higher risks of adverse outcomes. Recently, kidney disease: improving global outcomes (KDIGO) recommended a new guideline for AKI, including a little modification on the AKI staging criteria. ⋯ The incidence and 28-day mortality of AKI were very high in ICU septic patients. Greater attention should be paid to AKI-induced hepatic and respiratory dysfunction in clinical practice. Patients with an intra-abdominal source of infection were more likely to develop AKI. KDIGO criteria are reliable in AKI staging.

Effects of different doses in continuous veno-venous hemofiltration on plasma lactate in critically ill patients.
Many studies have shown that continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) could clean lactate and treat the hyper-lactatemia. On the contrary, some other studies found that filter lactate clearance only accounted for a very small part of total lactate clearance and the hemofilter's contribution to the overall lactate clearance was negligible. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of various doses of continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH) on plasma lactate elimination in critically ill patients. ⋯ Plasma lactate can be eliminated by CVVH and different doses of CVVH affect the rate of lactate clearance in critically ill patients.

Case ReportsComparisons in finite element analysis of minimally invasive, locking, and non-locking plates systems used in treating calcaneal fractures of Sanders type II and type III.
Calcaneal fractures are relatively common but complex, while the treatment of these fractures is still controversial. The objective of this study was to compare the biomechanical stability of minimally invasive, locking, and non-locking plating systems used for fixing Sanders type II and type III calcaneal fractures. Finite element analysis was used for comparing the three types of plating systems. This study helped in guiding the clinical management of calcaneal fractures. ⋯ The minimally invasive plating method could be a better alternative method in treating Sanders type II and type III calcaneal fractures. The observed stiffness of locking plate was not obviously stronger than unlocked plate.
