Effect of endogenous hydrogen sulfide on oxidative stress in oleic acid-induced acute lung injury in rats.
Acute lung injury (ALI) is a common critical disease in emergency care. Oxidative stress plays an important role in the pathogenesis of ALI. Endogenous hydrogen sulfide (H(2)S) can inhibit oxidative stress in rat gastric mucosal epithelium. In this study, we examined the possible role of H(2)S in regulation of the oxidative stress in oleic acid-induced acute lung injury in rats. ⋯ Endogenous H(2)S could inhibit the oxidative stress in lung tissue in oleic acid-induced acute lung injury in rats.

Ten-year survey on oncology publications from China and other top-ranking countries.
Cancer is a global disease that knows no borders. Over the past decade, oncology research had developed rapidly worldwide. The aim of this study was to evaluate the publication characteristics in oncology journals from China and other top-ranking countries. ⋯ This analysis described the research output from each country and region of China, and revealed the positive trend in China during 2001 and 2010. Also, by contrast with other top-ranking countries, these results imply that China falls behind the others in conducting high-quality oncology research.

Three core techniques in surgery of neuroepithelial tumors in eloquent areas: awake anaesthesia, intraoperative direct electrical stimulation and ultrasonography.
The goal of surgery in the treatment of intrinsic cerebral tumors is to resect the maximum tumor volume, and to spare the eloquent areas. However, it is difficult to discover the eloquent areas intraoperatively due to individual anatomo-functional variability both for sensori-motor and language functions. Consequently, the surgery of intrinsic cerebral tumors frequently results in poor extent of resection or permanent postoperative deficits, or both, and remains a difficult problem for neurosurgeons. ⋯ Awake anesthesia, intraoperative direct electrical stimulation and ultrasonography are three core techniques for the resection of intrinsic cerebral tumors near the eloquent areas. This new concept allows an improvement in the quality of surgery for neuroepithelial tumors in/adjacent to eloquent areas.

The current theory of dyspnea perception presumes a multidimensional conception of dyspnea. However, its validity in patients with cardiopulmonary dyspnea has not been investigated. ⋯ Three dimensions with seven qualitative components of dyspnea appeared in cardiopulmonary disease and the components under each dimension allowed separation of different patient groups. These findings may serve as a validation on the multiple dimensions of cardiopulmonary dyspnea.

ReviewShikani™ Seeing Optical Stylet-aided tracheal intubation in patients with a large epiglottic cyst.
Large epiglottic cysts can block the glottis, leading to serious consequences. This condition presents a challenge in terms of airway management for anesthesiologists during induction of anesthesia. We report the use of a Shikani™ Seeing Optical Stylet combined with a Macintosh laryngoscope to aid tracheal intubation in seven patients with large epiglottic cysts. Use of this technique can avoid cyst rupture and allow smooth, safe intubation.
