Impact of infections and extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Enterobacteriaceae on graft and patient survival in a kidney transplantation program in Mexico.
Immunosuppressive treatments have improved graft and patient survival rates, but can increase the incidence of post-transplant infections. ⋯ Significant death risk was found in kidney transplant recipients with positive bacterial cultures and an increased risk of graft loss in those with positive bacterial cultures and in those who were positive for ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae isolates. The rate of ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae is high, and stricter strategies are therefore necessary to control the use of antibiotics.

Colorectal cancer. Genetic variants in BMP signaling pathway and ancestry in the Mexican population.
Genetic variants related to bone morphogenetic proteins (BMP2, BMP4, GREM1, SMAD7) signaling pathway have been associated with colorectal cancer, mainly in Caucasian populations. ⋯ The study replicated the associations between colorectal cancer and SMAD7 and BMP4 variants, with an association being observed with the Caucasian component of the ethnic mix.

At the beginning of 2022, in the United Kingdom, and later in several European countries, a group of pediatric patients who developed acute hepatitis of so far unknown origin was reported. Clinical data include nausea, vomiting, jaundice, and liver failure; some patients require liver transplantation. ⋯ The probable etiological agent is adenovirus genotype F41, and toxic factors have been ruled out, as well as a relationship with COVID-19. There are several theories to explain this phenomenon, which are being investigated.

Diagnosing and treating human immunodeficiency virus carriers has led to the identification of a higher prevalence of said infection and, therefore, of a higher risk of transmission of the virus. ⋯ Our results suggest that the human immunodeficiency epidemic in patients cared for at the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social is concentrated in males, with a growing trend particularly in adolescents.
