The gold standard for determining the degree of liver fibrosis (LF) continues to be biopsy evaluation. There are morphometry techniques that allow LF to be quantified on histopathological studies. ⋯ HepaScan showed very good performance for evaluating FP in histological sections, which is why it can contribute to qualitative pathological diagnosis.

Towards objectivity in ethical assessment: legibility as part of informed consent form comprehension.
The experience on informed consent form (ICF) readability at the Research Ethics Committee of the National Institute of Cancerology of Mexico (INCan) is described. ⋯ It is necessary to have tools that provide objectivity to the evaluation of ICFs under investigation by ethics committees, which should be indicators of their comprehension, such as readability of the documents.

Appropriate size of resection margins in acral melanoma is not clearly established. ⋯ A resection margin of 1 to 2 cm did not affect tumor recurrence or survival in patients with acral melanoma.

Health care-associated infections (HAIs) are a common cause of morbidity and mortality. There is little information on the risk factors associated with HAI in surgical newborns. ⋯ Newborns undergoing surgery, mainly those with risk factors, require close monitoring during the postoperative period. CVC should be withdrawn as soon as possible.

Whether vitamin B12 deficiency is associated with cognitive impairment remains controversial. ⋯ A statistically significant association was observed between global cognitive performance and levels of vitamin B12.
