Despite the important advances in pregnancy and newborn follow-up, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy is still one of the prominent causes of newborn mortality and disability worldwide, and there is no sufficiently effective treatment for it yet. This study aimed to investigate whether the ozone injection, administered in a single-dose as a preconditioning agent before the hypoxia and in single and repeated doses on different days following the hypoxia, would affect the spatial memory performance of the rats in the Morris water maze test or on their apoptotic cell numbers. ⋯ Other studies have shown that controlled application of ozone would result in oxidative preconditioning and reduce the damage induced by reactive oxygen species through enabling adaptation to oxidative stress. Our study obtained remarkable and encouraging findings for ozone administration in HIBI by examining Group 4's performance in the first four days and the difference in its platform finding times between Day 1 and Day 4. Growing resistance to clarithromycin is a major concern regarding treating Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection. Resistance rates have a great variation even in different geographic areas within the same country and are associated with point mutations of the microbial 23S rRNA (A2142C, A2142G, and A2143G). Given the absence of available data in Thrace, the objective of this study was to estimate the resistance of H. pylori to clarithromycin and identify specific mutations that contribute to clarithromycin resistance. ⋯ A high rate of H. pylori resistance to clarithromycin was observed in our region, implicating that it should be addressed in accordance with the recommendations provided by national and international guidelines. Molecular testing should be considered an integral tool for effective monitoring in case of suspected antibiotic resistance. HIPPOKRATIA 2021, 25 (2):51-55.

Pilon fractures are complex injuries of the ankle associated with many postoperative complications. The optimal treatment for pilon fractures has not yet been established. This study aimed to determine the efficacy and compare the results of percutaneous rush pinning of the associated fibular fracture to the conventional open reduction and internal fixation. ⋯ Percutaneous intramedullary rush pinning of the concomitant fibular fracture is a safe and reliable alternative treatment option in managing pilon fractures that could reduce the incidence of postoperative wound complications HIPPOKRATIA 2021, 25 (2):63-68.

Due to variable rates of colon carcinoma or advanced adenoma mimicking an acute diverticulitis episode, the necessity of colonoscopy to detect colon cancer or advanced adenoma remains to be explored. This study investigated the incidence and predictive factors of colon cancer or advanced adenoma following acute diverticulitis. ⋯ Colonoscopy examination following an episode of acute diverticulitis may not be recommended for all patients due to the rare occurrence of colon cancer or clinically significant colonic neoplasia in those younger than 50 years. Leadless pacing: First experience and outcomes in an isolated area in the setting of the Greek financial crisis.
Leadless pacing (LP) is a novel permanent pacing modality without transvenous leads that is increasingly applied in certain circumstances. We aimed to report our preliminary experience in LP implementation. ⋯ Our data indicate that LP's long-term cost-effectiveness is limited in patients with several comorbidities due to increased mortality. Indeed, considering its increased financial cost, well-defined patients' selection criteria should be developed and applied, especially in medium/low-income countries. HIPPOKRATIA 2021, 25 (2):75-78.
