Endometriosis is a common gynecological disease, affecting up to 10% of women of reproductive age and approximately 50% of women with infertility. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been shown to be involved in a number of diseases. Dysregulated expression of circRNAs in endometriosis has been reported, and circ_0000673 was significantly downregulated. ⋯ We found that the effect of circ_0000673 knockdown could be recovered by miR-616-3p inhibitor and enhanced by miR-616-3p mimics. qPCR and western blot assays showed that circ_0000673 knockdown could decrease the expression of PTEN and increase the expression of PI3K and p-AKT. PTEN was confirmed to be a target of miR-616-3p. These results demonstrated that the downregulation of circ_0000673 could promote the progression of endometriosis by inactivating PTEN via the deregulation of miR-616-3p.

The Association of Targeted Gut Microbiota with Body Composition in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
The association between body composition and gut microbiota in type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) remains unknown. To elucidate the correlation of body composition and gut microbiota, we conducted a clinical study to enroll 179 patients with type 2 DM. Body composition of lean tissue index (LTI) and fat tissue index was measured by Body Composition Monitor. ⋯ The results showed that type 2 DM with higher abundance of phylum Firmicutes and a higher ratio of phyla Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes (phyla F/B ratio) had higher LTI. This significant correlation between phyla F/B ratio and LTI was especially evident in type 2 DM with high body mass index, and independent of glycemic control or dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor usage. In conclusion, our study demonstrated the positive association of LTI with the abundance of phylum Firmicutes and the phyla F/B ratio in type 2 DM.

Background: Sorafenib, an oral multi-kinase inhibitor of rapidly accelerated fibrosarcoma; vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2/3, platelet-derived growth factor receptor, c-Kit, and Flt-3 signaling, is approved for treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the benefit of sorafenib is often diminished because of acquired resistance through the reactivation of ERK signaling in sorafenib-resistant HCC cells. In this work, we investigated whether adding LY3214996, a selective ERK1/2 inhibitor, to sorafenib would increase the anti-tumor effectiveness of sorafenib to HCC cells. ⋯ Conclusions: Reactivation of ERK1/2 appears to be a molecular mechanism of acquired resistance of HCC to sorafenib. LY3214996 combined with sorafenib enhanced the anti-tumor effects of sorafenib in HCC. These findings form a theoretical basis for trial of LY3214996 combined with sorafenib as second-line treatment of sorafenib-resistant in advanced HCC.

The Levels of Depression, Anxiety, Acceptance of Illness, and Medication Adherence in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis - Descriptive and Correlational Study.
Emotional functioning is one of the factors affecting medication adherence in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Adherence to treatment is a very important element in the therapy of patients with MS and requires from them cooperation, positive emotional status and acceptance of illness. This study evaluated the role of depression, anxiety, and the acceptance of illness on adherence to disease-modifying therapies (DMT) in MS. ⋯ It has to be concluded that anxiety and depression have a significant negative impact on medication adherence in MS patients. However, MS patients with an increased acceptance of their illness have a higher rate of adherence to DMT. The emotional state of a patient is an important factor that can both positively and negatively affect their adherence and their resulting prognosis.

Background: Neuron specific enolase (NSE) is a specific biomarker for SCLC. However, the biological roles and aberrant expression of NSE in SCLC have not been well illustrated. Methods: The expression of NSE, miR-93-5p and LINC00657 in SCLC tissues and cell lines were detected using real time quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR) or immunohistochemistry. ⋯ LINC00657 and miR-93-5p promoted SCLC cell migration, invasion and EMT by NSE-mediated manner. Conclusion: Overall, our study revealed a novel role of NSE in SCLC. NSE was positively regulated by LINC00657 through competitively interacting with miR-93-5p, which may be potential targets for SCLC patients.
