Severity of frailty as a significant predictor of mortality for hemodialysis patients: a prospective study in China.
Background: Frailty is known to be highly prevalent in older hemodialysis (HD) patients. We studied the prevalence of frailty and its associated factors in Chinese HD patients. We further studied if frailty could predict survival in HD patients. ⋯ Conclusions: Our results confirm frailty to be very common among HD patients and severity of frailty was a significant predictor of mortality for HD patients. Factors such as age, malnutrition and low blood pressure are the factors to be associated with frailty. Interdialytic weight gain inducing excessive ultrafiltration volume is an important risk factor.

Objective : This network meta-analysis (NMA) aimed to determine the relative efficacy and safety of pharmacological strategies used to mitigate haemodynamic instability by intubation for general anaesthesia in hypertensive parturient women undergoing caesarean section. Methods : We considered randomised controlled studies comparing the effects of pharmacological strategies used to alleviate haemodynamic instability during intubation in parturient women with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. The primary endpoints were maximum blood pressure and heart rate after intubation, and secondary endpoints were the Apgar scores at 1 and 5 min. ⋯ The maximal heart rate was lowest for labetalol (99.9%) followed by high dose of remifentanil (81.2%) and fentanyl (61.6%). Apgar score at 1 min was higher with low-dose than with high-dose remifentanil (mean difference, 0.726; 95% confidence interval, 0.056 to 1.396; I2=0.0%). Conclusions : High-dose remifentanil produces minimum blood pressure changes, while labetalol is most effective in maintaining normal heart rate in parturient women with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy during caesarean section under general anaesthesia.

miRNAs are a family of short, noncoding RNAs that are involved in many processes in melanoma cells. MITF acts as a master regulator of melanocyte function, development and survival by modulating various genes. ⋯ We found that miR-7013-3p exhibited increased expression after HU treatment and could bind to MITF. miR-7013-3p inhibited melanin production, proliferation, and migration and promoted apoptosis in B16 melanoma cells. The results may provide more information on the roles of miR-7013-3p in B16 melanoma cells.

Overexpression of Teashirt Homolog 2 suppresses cell proliferation and predicts the favorable survival of Lung Adenocarcinoma.
Background: Teashirt homolog 2 (TSHZ2) is essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis and regulating transcription on neoplasia development. However, the regulation of TSHZ2 in lung tumorigenesis and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Objective: To evaluate the relationship between TSHZ2 expression in patients' tumor tissue and prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma. ⋯ An elevated TSHZ2 expression was observed in 155(68.6%) tumor tissues samples of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Notably, the lung adenocarcinoma patients with a high TSHZ2 expression tended to have EGFR mutations less frequently and a preferable prognosis to those with a lower expression. Conclusion: A high TSHZ2 expression inhabited cell proliferation and predicted a better prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma, possibly representing a useful therapeutic target for lung adenocarcinoma.

Background: There are no uniform guidelines on low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) follow-up in lung cancer screening. Few studies have analyzed the incidental abnormalities and role of tumor markers in lung cancer screening. The purpose of this study was to investigate the diagnostic performance of LDCT, optimal follow-up duration, incidental findings, and role of tumor markers in diagnosing lung cancer. ⋯ A family history of lung cancer and abnormal serum CEA levels are important risk factors for lung cancer. A minimum of 4-year follow-up is required to track suspicious nodules. A purely radiological follow-up detects a high incidence of lung cancer.
