Objective: This study aimed to investigate the roles of MRPL27 in survival from cholangiocarcinoma patients in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Methods: In TCGA-CHOL profile, MRPL27 gene expression and clinical data were obtained. Cox regression models were used to evaluate the potential links between MRPL27 and cholangiocarcinoma survival. ⋯ Bioinformatic analysis revealed that MRPL27 mainly involved in the processes of mitochondrial translation elongation, respiratory electron transport, ATP synthesis, and inner mitochondrial membrane organization. No mutations of MRPL27 were screened in cholangiocarcinoma patients. Conclusion: Upregulated in tumors, MRPL27 contributes to unfavorable survival in cholangiocarcinoma patients.

Islet amyloid polypeptide (amylin), consecrated by the pancreatic β-cells with insulin, has a significant role to play in maintaining homeostasis of islet cell hormones. Alzheimer's disease is the predominant source of dementia. However, its etiology remains uncertain; it appears that type 2 diabetes mellitus and other prediabetic states of insulin resistance contribute to the intermittent Alzheimer's disease presence. ⋯ We report results of molecular interaction analysis of Chrysin with amylin which shows potent binding affinity against amylin. Pharmacokinetics and Drug likeness studies of Chrysin also suggest that it is a potential lead compound. Therefore, Chrysin prevented amylin aggregation.

Bacterial biofilm (dental plaque) plays a key role in caries etiopathogenesis and chronic periodontitis in humans. Dental plaque formation is determined by exopolysaccharides (EPSs) produced by cariogenic and periopathogenic bacteria. The most frequent cariogenic bacteria include oral streptococci (in particular S. mutans) and lactobacilli (most frequently L. acidophilus). ⋯ The analysed EPSs did not affect the viability of cells. The tests presented in this work show that EPSs from cariogenic bacteria have no cytotoxic effect on HGF-1. At the same time, the results provide new data indicating that EPSs from selected oral lactobacilli may have stimulating effect on the synthesis of ATP in gingival fibroblasts which increases their energetic potential and takes a protective effect.

To analyze the prevalence proportions and prognostic factors of synchronous distant metastases in patients with tonsil squamous cell carcinomas (TSCC). ⋯ Lung was the most frequent lesion of synchronous distant metastases and liver and bone metastases were associated with African American. Higher T and N classification were independent prognostic parameters for higher prevalence of lung, bone, liver and brain metastasis. Worse prognosis was associated with older age, African Americans, lower grade, higher T and N classification, no surgery therapy and more metastatic sites.

Background: The mucus integrity and abnormal inflammatory response are the crucial biomarker of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Velvet antler (VA) has been used as traditional Chinese medicines for many years. Anti-inflammatory property was demonstrated via suppression of cyclooxygenase-2 and cytokines protein expression. ⋯ Besides, MTT assay revealed that both extracts showed no cytotoxicity. Conclusion: Thus, SVAE and RVAE supplementation may attenuate barrier damage by enhancing the occludin and ZO-1 protein expression, decreasing MLCK expression, promoting the CCL20 production. In the future, animal study is needed for further confirmation.
