Numerous preclinical models have been developed to advance biomedical research in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). They are essential for improving our knowledge of T1DM development and progression, allowing researchers to identify potential therapeutic targets and evaluate the effectiveness of new medications. ⋯ Here, we will comprehensively summarize and discuss the applications, advantages, and limitations of the commonly used animal models for human T1DM and also overview the up-to-date human tissue bioengineering models for the investigation of T1DM. By combining these models with a better understanding of the pathophysiology of T1DM, we can enhance our insights into disease initiation and development, ultimately leading to improved therapeutic responses and outcomes.

Background: No study on the relationship between common abnormalities of the upper digestive tract and colorectal polyps (CPs) has been conducted. Methods: 33439 patients were enrolled in this cross-sectional study, of which 7700 had available Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) information. All participants underwent colonoscopy and esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) simultaneously or within six months at Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology from January 2015 to November 2021. ⋯ Moreover, the combined effect of H.pylori infection and AG was slightly greater than the sum of their individual effects on the risk of CPs, but there was no additive interaction between them. Conclusions: Gastric conditions including gastric polyps, H.pylori infection, and AG increased the risk of CPs. However, Barrett's esophagus and reflux esophagitis, bile reflux, erosive gastritis, gastric ulcer, and superficial gastritis might not have relationship with CPs occurrence.

Atherosclerosis is a chronic, inflammatory disease characterized by a lipid-driven infiltration of inflammatory cells in large and medium arteries and is considered to be a major underlying cause of cardiovascular diseases. Cuproptosis, a novel form of cell death, is highly linked to mitochondrial metabolism and mediated by protein lipoylation. However, the clinical implication of cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) in atherosclerosis remains unclear. ⋯ The area under the curve (AUC) of SLC31A1, SLC31A2 and SOD1 performed well for the diagnostic validation in the two datasets. In conclusion, the cuproptosis-related gene signature could serve as a potential diagnostic biomarker for atherosclerosis and may offer novel insights into the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Based on the hub genes, a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network of lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA and a transcription factor regulation network were ultimately constructed to explore the possible regulatory mechanism in atherosclerosis.

Review Meta Analysis
Smoking and Unstable Plaque in Acute Coronary Syndrome: A Systematic Review of The Role of Matrix Metalloproteinases.
Smoking is a risk factor of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) that could increase matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) levels, leading to unstable coronary artery plaque. The current review aimed to identify the relationship between smoking and MMPs in patients with ACS. Literature search was conducted from inception until March 2022 in three online databases. ⋯ Additionally, a meta-analysis of two studies resulted in an increased odd of ACS in smokers with MMP-3 5A allele versus non-smokers with MMP-3 6A6A allele (OR: 15.94, 95% CI: 10.63-23.92; I2 =55%). In conclusion, the current review highlights the role of MMPs in relation to smoking and ACS. The determination of these roles may help in identifying new ACS markers among smokers and the development of drug-targeted treatment.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been widely used in various medical fields, such as image diagnosis, pathological classification, selection of treatment schemes, and prognosis analysis. Especially in the image-aided diagnosis of tumors, the cooperation of human-computer interactions has become mature. ⋯ The CDSS was currently used and promoted worldwide including Watson for Oncology, Chinese society of clinical oncology-artificial intelligence (CSCO AI) and so on. This paper summarized the applications and clarified the principle of AI in CDSS, analyzed the difficulties of AI in oncology decisions, and provided a reference scheme for the application of AI in oncology decisions in the future.
