Background: Er:YAG laser is widely used in debonding of all-ceramic veneers nowadays. However, the data about laser parameters in all-ceramic crown removal is limited. The aim of this preliminary study was to determine the most appropriate laser parameters at safe heat transmission values for lithium disilicate crowns in different thicknesses. ⋯ The statistically significant difference in removal time was only between 5 W and 5.9 W groups (p=0.035). Pearson's chi-square test revealed that the temperature rise after 5.9 W laser application was significantly different from 5 W in 1 mm thickness group (p=0.043). Conclusion: Er:YAG laser lithium disilicate crown removal is an effective and safe method using laser settings appropriate for crown thickness.

This study aims to investigate and compare the stress distribution, displacement, and bone loading of monoblock and dual custom-made subperiosteal implant systems in atrophic maxilla using finite element analysis (FEA). A total of 11 patients with insufficient bone tissue for conventional implant treatment were included in the study. Customized subperiosteal implant designs were generated using the 3D average models obtained from patients' computed tomography (CT) scans. ⋯ In conclusion, custom subperiosteal implants are a viable treatment option for patients with insufficient bone tissue for conventional implants. Dual implant systems were found to have lower stress and displacement values compared to monoblock structures, indicating a potential advantage in clinical use. However, mono implants may have benefits in cases of immediate teeth loading due to their ability to absorb and distribute occlusal forces better.

Background: Aim to investigate bile acid profile changes and the Farnesoid X receptor (FXR) status after ileotransposition (IT), and reveal its possible hypoglycemic mechanism. Methods: Twenty male diabetic rats were randomly assigned into the IT group and the sham IT (SH) group. Bile acid profiles were measured using an ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. ⋯ After sacrifice, the levels of glycoursodeoxycholic acid, tauro-α-muricholic acid and tauro-β-muricholic acid in liver and ileum tissues were higher than those in the SH group (P < 0.05), the level of α- muricholic acid (P < 0.001) in liver tissues were lower than that in the SH group. Moreover, the expression of CYP7A1 mRNA (P < 0.001) and FGF15 mRNA (P = 0.001) in the IT group was significantly higher, and the expression of PEPCK mRNA (P = 0.004), SREPB1c mRNA (P = 0.005) and SRB1 mRNA (P = 0.001) were significantly lower than that in the SH group. Conclusions: We demonstrate a remarkable heterogeneity of BA profiles after IT, FXR activation might has a detrimental effect on glucose metabolism.

Skeletal muscle undergoes rapid and extensive atrophy following nerve transection though the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. We previously showed transiently elevated Notch 1 signaling in denervated skeletal muscle that was abrogated by administration of nandrolone (an anabolic steroid) combined with replacement doses of testosterone. Numb is an adaptor molecule present in myogenic precursors and skeletal muscle fibers that is vital for normal tissue repair after muscle injury and for skeletal muscle contractile function. ⋯ We next compared rates of denervation atrophy between mice with conditional, tamoxifen-inducible knockout of Numb in myofibers and genetically identical mice treated with vehicle. Numb cKO had no effect on denervation atrophy in this model. Taken together, the data indicate that loss of Numb in myofibers does not alter the course of denervation atrophy and that upregulation of Numb and blunting of the denervation-atrophy induced activation of Notch do not change the course of denervation atrophy.
